By Press Office · 60 comments

Revolution Cycles, owned and run by the Kotze family has teamed up with Specialized Bicycles to open up a Concept store in the heart of Cape Town. Situated in Bree street on the foot of Table Mountain, the setting could not be any better. Revolution Cycles has truly become a shopping destination for locals and foreigners alike.

“The different levels in the store made the design process an interesting one. The final result is a very unique retail environment that has an open, yet warm and personal feel. Any type of rider can walk into the shop and experience a tailored area for their riding style. The dedicated women, road and mountain experiences showcase a full range of products. Another great addition to the shop is the Body Geometry Fit studio and full time Body Geometry Fit technician. This service offers the possibility for cyclists in the Mother City to enjoy cycling the way that it is intended and to achieve the Body Geometry Fit slogan – Be one with your bike,” said Peet Le Roux (Retail Manager).

“Five years ago we took on Specialized bicycles for the first time. I did not think that we were good enough, but my dad said ‘My boy, we will make it work’ and since then we have not looked back. We are very excited to open up a concept store here in the heart of Cape Town and we are very proud of what we have to offer. We want to keep the rider on their bicycle. It’s not always about winning, its about finishing with a smile on your face,” said Stirling Kotze jnr (Revolution Cycles Owner).

Oh and BTW, next time you freak out at what Revolution charges for the Spez bikes just be consistent. Also then lose the plot when seeing a specced out SC Nomad, Yeti, Pyga whatever.

Bikes are expensive. All of them.

Spez is still one of the few brands that gives you a top frame with rideable spec for under R30k.

But please, carry on resenting people for doing what they love and making money whilst doing what they (and you would) love.

Not sure who you dealt with but SJ and his dad certainly know their products. They employed a bunch of new staff recently so that would be understandable.

Furthermore, they're no more expensive than any other Spez retailer. They sell at RRP and give discount.

Yes they are. But lets leave it at that. You obviously have friends there or something. I will rather support my local shop in Paarl.

You are going waaay off topic here mate. This isnt a Spez vs the rest debate. Bikes are expensive for sure. Thats why most of us buy them where we get the best price.

See you on the trails in Paarl.

hijack: go drool over a yeti at thegearchange instead.

edit: will add something meaningful to the debate.

it is impressive that the sport has grown to the extent that shops like this can operate, clearly with big budgets, professional shop fitters etc, when I stareted mountain bicycling g my LBS was a little semi detached house in salt river painted turquoise....before the area became trendy.

so yes this place looks impressive, perhaps its the right environment for a 40something director to drop R80 to R120+ K on a carbon full suss 29er that he just has to have in order to ride off road.

suppose there'e a reason why they sell Aston Martins at the waterfront and Kia's in Paarden Eiland.

want to shoot the breeze with the mechanic pull into your LBS, want to get "wow'ed" by a lot of trademarked jargon and drop R100k, you know where to go

.

There's an insight into marketing...

I'm glad there's no Cannondale Concept Store

My credit card will be black and blue

Hehehehee

I vote for Epic Cycles to start, but then they would have to move out those very cool Rocky Mountains...

The cycling industry is slightly different. The guys coining it are the sole agents. Specialized broke convention by ditching the agency model and preferred a more direct presence. This is paying off now that what was seen as a somewhat weird and dangerous pastime now is mainstream. I predict that the other manufacturers will follow suite once their agency agreements come to an end. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy the moms and pops bike shops from time to time, but they are a dying breed. Just like the corner grocer disappeared the moms and pops bike shops are in their way out.

You migh complin about the price of their bikes, mind you , saw a Giant in Durbanville or R95k, so you get expensive bikes everywhere.

If you care to look at the clothing and gear, you might find that in the Spez store you get good quality at good prices, I am referring to gloves, helmets, shoes, bibs, etc.  Sure you will always find something cheaper and Sportsmans.

People bou more everyday stuff and service bikes more often than buys new bikes.
