By Press Office · 60 comments

Revolution Cycles, owned and run by the Kotze family has teamed up with Specialized Bicycles to open up a Concept store in the heart of Cape Town. Situated in Bree street on the foot of Table Mountain, the setting could not be any better. Revolution Cycles has truly become a shopping destination for locals and foreigners alike.

“The different levels in the store made the design process an interesting one. The final result is a very unique retail environment that has an open, yet warm and personal feel. Any type of rider can walk into the shop and experience a tailored area for their riding style. The dedicated women, road and mountain experiences showcase a full range of products. Another great addition to the shop is the Body Geometry Fit studio and full time Body Geometry Fit technician. This service offers the possibility for cyclists in the Mother City to enjoy cycling the way that it is intended and to achieve the Body Geometry Fit slogan – Be one with your bike,” said Peet Le Roux (Retail Manager).

“Five years ago we took on Specialized bicycles for the first time. I did not think that we were good enough, but my dad said ‘My boy, we will make it work’ and since then we have not looked back. We are very excited to open up a concept store here in the heart of Cape Town and we are very proud of what we have to offer. We want to keep the rider on their bicycle. It’s not always about winning, its about finishing with a smile on your face,” said Stirling Kotze jnr (Revolution Cycles Owner).

Been there, very very nice shop. But not willing to give any discount, their choice obviously. Bought my bike somewhere else for R8500 cheaper. Thats a lot of money, I am sorry.

Impressive shop, very very pretty and well stocked.

They still have a smaller shop down the road.

I always get discount. They always hook me up with a deal or throw in a something extra.

Lend me tools when I need them, lend me wheels when I break my own, source kit no one else. Can get me, send me elsewhere when they can't help me.

Haters gonna hate I guess.

I like supporting shops that know what I ride. For me that's Revolution and Kroff.

Haters gonna hate GL.I find their service and their prices brilliant. I have for the last 5 years, even before they started selling Specialised.

Why dont you say what you mean seen as you have something to say ?

Whose hating, you completley misinterpret my statement. They're a great store but being a concept store brings pitfalls...

More vague pearls of wisdom. :) Why don't you just articulate what you mean?

Personally never felt welcome when I've been there, maybe I'm not "local" enough for them to take my money

I can only give good feedback on revolution cycles... Which is strange because i own no specialized bikes.

Stirling junior helped me get a niner frame i wanted for a fairly competitive price. And then as i was building up the bike, one of the mechanics there has always been helpful when i have went in to learn how to do something. Helpful as in stopped what he was doing and shown me what to do and for free because i had bought the frame there. And they weren't always quick tasks, one of them was helping me to cut the fork and install the headset so i appreciated his help along the way.

I also think the new store looks good. Full of specialized gear and a decent amount of parts in stock for when you need something. Price wise, they may not be the cheapest vs online but i think they are there or there abouts compared to the other lbs i use and i'm happy to pay slightly more for service and being able to walk in and get what i want if i need it urgently, rather than saving 5-10% and waiting to have it shipped from overseas.

I might also be wrong here but i think specialized has a linked system between all its shops in south africa, so if you are after something and the shop doesn't have it it can see whats in stock around the country and get it in for you. Again i could be wrong here but if its true i think that's great from specialized and I wish some other big brands like trek would offer the same. Nothing worse than wanting something and then having to import it because no one locally can tell you if its available or not

Apart from being so pretentious, whats the difference between a concept store and a bike shop??

A bike shop sells as many brands as they can squeeze onto the sales floor, like say Edgars, while a concept store only sells a particular brand, like say the Levi's store.

Another aspect of concept stores is that staff are trained on a specific range of bikes and components. They generally also have more depth in what is on the floor in terms of sizes etc. A concept store should have all the main bike models in all available sizes, provided hat there is stock in SA, while a normal bike shop typically only have one of each model and have to source any deviation in size requirement from Specialized HQ. Some concept stores work, some don't. Sales and service staff and management all have to buy into the brand 100% and location plays a huge role too.
