Trek and Telkom 947 Cycle Challenge are thrilled to announce a collaboration that supports first-time riders in this year’s edition of the race. With over 4000 riders in the last 6 un-seeded batches, the programme ensures that these riders have a more enjoyable day on the bike and make it to the finish line – all smiles.
The Trek Troopers are a crew of experienced cyclists who have freed up their time to help others get through their first race and have some fun in the process.
Wherever there is someone on two-wheels, there is a measure of joy to which we all relate.
Crossing the finish line of any race is exhilarating. The feeling of accomplishment, of achieving a goal that you’ve set and worked toward. Of course, finishing feels wonderful no matter how many times you’ve done it before but when you cross the finish line of your first race, the feeling is absolutely and overwhelmingly exhilarating and is one of life’s rare moments of perfection.
Trek and Cycle challenge want to get more people to the finish line and inspire more people to ride bikes, more often.
The Trek Troopers will be clad in high-visibility Trek-Cycle Challenge jerseys, bibs and helmets and will have front and rear daytime running lights making them more visible in the group whilst creating exposure of Trek’s ABC’s of cycling safety, which encourages riders to be seen and be safer on the roads.
Trek’s research shows that cyclists drastically overestimate the distance at which they are detectable by motorists. Unless we’re actively doing something to increase our detectability, we may not be seen at all. And that’s an alarming reality.
Ride with lights day and night.
The ABC of Awareness – Always on, Biomotion and Contrast – are presented in a good, better, best hierarchy. There are a lot of measures we can take to increase our visibility on the road, but research has shown that using daytime running lights is the single most effective way to stand out to motor vehicles. If you only do one thing, do this.
The more of the ABC’s you follow on every ride, the more you’ll stand out. Find your day-time running lights at any Bontrager stockist and with the Bontrager guarantee if you don’t love them, we will take it back within 30 days – it’s that simple. Find your retailer here.
