About the Bicycle
More about the bike:
My Orbea Occam 29 was stolen in Stellenbosch yesterday morning (Saturday 13 May), chained up outside Paul Bothner Music store, Merriman Street where was having guitar restrung.
Eyewitness motorist said he saw 2 coloured men busting the chain, very thin +- 40 years old & ' well-weathered' and strongly reckons they are 'tik-koppe.'
Bought bike brand new 3 years ago, and have paper-work ie. invoice and serial number at home still, to update later & just want to get the word out soonest.
Bike is 100% standard build, with minimal scratches and damage to it - the most significant being the left pedal crank arm as shoe/cleat went squiff at Knysna XTERRA.
Pedals are Shimano PD-540's, and rest of bike is Shimano XT groupset (XTR rear derailluer) with SLX brakes. Handlebar and seat post are both RaceFace.
The picture below is recent, and bike is in identical condition.
Incident Details
More about the incident:
Bike was chained to tree 1.5m outside Paul Bothner shop entrance in Merriman Street at +-10:40AM.
Did check on it once whilst in the shop (& removed water-bottle), but when guitar was done 15 mins later it was gone.
Motorist eyewitness came running, and we both tried to find the two perps (one being lifted on handlebar) but to no avail. (They turned left into Bird Street ie. toward 'Die Braak') but lost them due to traffic.
Detective Constable Bangily can be contacted on (021) 809-9140 / 42 with any further lead info.
Cloetesville Police Station has also been notified, together with Stellenbosch Watch and all major shopping centres, bike shops & 2nd hand shops.
