Update: New SRAM (not Avid) brakes revealed, say goodbye to Elixirs (Avid?)

By BikeHubCoreAdmin · 14 comments

Say hello to SRAM Guides. Spotted here on Velovert.com, it looks like SRAM are finally releasing a new brake to their lineup. Or are they ditching the old Elixir lineup altogether?

UPDATE: SRAM has not branded these new Guide brakes with Avid, but instead using their own branding. Could this be the distinction mean that SRAM are proud of their new brake system and are happy to finally put their name on it? Check out the video for all the info.

From Velovert.com (Take into account that this has been translated from French, so some details will be messy)

With Family Guide, SRAM has brakes designed for a rather versatile use of cross-country enduro through the hike and all-mountain. Technology that wants to forget about the problems faced by some series Avid.

Forgotten so Avid brakes, SRAM puts everything flat to start with a good foundation with the family Guide, versatile brakes dedicated both to the cross-country enduro through the hike and all-mountain.

The new guide uses the same brake caliper 4 pistons of two different diameters fitted to Avid Trail.

If the bracket is fully identical to the Trail brand models, ie 4-piston two different diameters (14 and 16 mm) the lever has been redesigned from A to Z. New expansion tank ( tank). The aluminum lever (all versions) acts through a cam “SwingLink” on the piston. Different settings, nip, tool-free brake lever are independent of the hydraulic circuit. Well done for reliability. Centerline The drive is designed to minimize vibration and noise during braking. It will be available in 140, 160, 170, 180 and 200 mm in diameter.

Sections reveal the bowels levers with Pure Bladder systems, TBC Plus and SwingLink.

The Guide will be available in three ranges of more or less sophisticated and upscale, RSC, RS and R. The weight varies slightly depending on the model 375 to 380 grams, with advertised rates 177 € for the RSC, 132 € for RS and 115 € for R.

Lever, SRAM started from scratch to solve definitively answer all the problems encountered in the past.

And found on Imgur.com was an advertisement with the typical manufacturer’s spiel

avids are simple to adjust and easy to live with - nothing to worry about here mate - learn em and love em - they're lightweight and straight forward - those new brakes IMO look fairly bulky on the bar?

These are trail brakes, dont worry avids will remain. I saw Sauser testing a new shiny version but they looked the same as the current xx brakesTacx

Finally the Avid fans can stop defending their kit and just bin it like they've secretly wanted to do all along... ;)

I agree with Cap. That lever looks as though it's from a juicy 7.

dont suppose you have a internal section view/ cut away of the Juicy range of brakes? want to see how different it is internally to the new brakes. SRAM Guide.... bit of an odd name.

PB responded to a comment of mine, in which they confirmed it blows the socks off X0 Trail.

NOw that is quite some statement, because frankly, the difference between XO Trails and Codes is practically zero in terms of stopping force.

internally, it looks like Juicy brakes as well, excluding the obvious additions like reach adust, and the new cam system to change the lever 'feel'.

How much are they going for, if I may ask? They look to be exactly what I want.
