Our favourite quarterly report is back.
Since 2024, we’ve been tracking marketplace data each quarter to spot trends on Bike Hub. The first quarter of 2025 showed positive momentum, with growth in key categories. Looking at the second quarter in 2025, we have fresh insights into buyer interest, category shifts, and new emerging patterns.
Dive into the full report below to see what we found:
Demand is Up
Overall enquiries are up 13.7% year-on-year for Q2 2025 vs Q2 2024.
Enquiries (responses to ads) are not a direct measure of sales, but they are an excellent indicator of demand. We assume that actual sales closely follow the demand trends.

Enquiries by Category
Mountain Bikes (Hardtail and Dual Suspension combined) make up 53% of all enquiries with Road Bikes at 22.5%. Road Bikes are down from 27% in Q1, which likely reflects a seasonal contraction in demand for road bikes in winter.
Gravel Bike enquires have grown from 5.7% in Q1 to 6.9% in Q2, probably also as a result of seasonal riding trends. It will be interesting to follow this fast-growing category over the coming months. Demand for Electric Bikes remains steady at 5.9%.

Gravel Continues to Climb
Gravel Bike interest continues its upward trajectory, with enquiries up 35.9% year-on-year for Q2.

Gauteng leads the Gravel Bike charge, accounting for 47% of enquiries. The growing popularity of gravel events is likely a contributing factor: 27 of the 50 events currently listed on our Events Calendar are gravel-bike friendly.
Dual Suspension Mountain Bikes Scale
Enquiries on Dual Suspension Mountain Bikes are up an impressive 29.9% in Q2 2025 compared to Q2 2024. As a staple of South African cycling, this is an excellent indicator of market health, both in our marketplace and the industry in general.

Road Bikes Cruise
Road Bike enquiries grew a solid 10.2% year-on-year.
- 28.5% of enquires fall into the R25k–R50k price bracket.
- 55% of enquiries in the sub-R25k price range.

E-Bikes Power Up
E-Bike enquiries have grown by a wildly impressive 41.6% year-on-year. Q2 is only down 4.8% on Q1: a minor seasonal contraction compared with some other categories.

Enquiries on E-Bikes per Quarter by Province
Hardtail Mountain Bikes Hold Steady
Hardtail Mountain Bikes are up a very robust 30.8% year on year for Q2 and down 2.8% on Q1, again showing little seasonal contraction.

Enquiries on Hardtail Mountain Bikes per Quarter by Price Band
Over 95% of enquiries are in the under R25k price bracket, confirming their appeal as an entry-level purchase.
Conclusion
The second quarter of 2025 paints a positive picture for buyer interest and activity in our marketplace with a steady growth in core categories like Dual Suspension Mountain Bikes and Road Bikes, and surging interest in Gravel and E-Bikes.
Seasonal trends remain a factor, but overall demand is up. The data suggests that South African cyclists remain passionate, and are continuing to invest in their cycling journeys.
We’ll be back with more insights in Quarter 3.
