By Press Office · 687 comments

Cycling South Africa takes note of the sanction of 11 months period of ineligibility imposed by the UCI against Ms. Yolande de Villiers for the presence of the prohibited substances hydrochlorothiazide and amilorid (diuretic) found in three samples collected from the rider on 31 January, 28 February and 21 March 2015.

Cycling South Africa will not make any further comment on the case.

Ah ffs another one.. so is this a case of anti doping SA finally starting to do a good job or a case of moronic athletes that think they can't be caught

Exactly what I said...it's all a big effing mess!!

I'll still let her ride in front of me

If I may be so kind to point out...the article says De Villiers and not Du Toit.....

Because 11 months for 3 positive results back dated so that the sentence is already run is pathetic.

Inconsistency = loss of credibility.

Credibility???

Masking agent. Used normally for hypertension, cardiac failure, pulmonary oedema and other conditions that are highly unlikely to be diagnosed in a top athlete. I wonder whether an inept pharmacist isn't contaminating medication....

But shouldn't a top performing athlete know better?

I'm allergic to paracetamol and I double check all medication which is prescribed and dispensed to me even though my GP and pharmacist knows of my allergy (they still miss it sometimes)

Way back when i still raced; i went from pharmacy to pharmacy until i found a pharmacist who said "sure you can use this, nothing banned in it".

The Epic's policy is that if ANY athlete, amateur or professional, is caught doping, in any race, as of 1 January 2013, they are automatically banned from doing the Epic again. EVER...!

Please baby Jesus let her be allowed to race it.

I'm dying to do it again...

The CSA not commenting muddies things.

UCI who listed her doesn't seem to offer more than an AAF mention on this:

Does anyone actually know anything more about this?

Would be quite controversial if they went back on the banning cheats initiative.

Does an 11-month sentence sound more like a "you should have known better" than a "you cheated" sentence to anyone?

If her ban is until end of 2015 then what's the point? Sentence supposedly served and away she goes or am I missing something?

What ban? During the "ban" she podium'd at the Epic, won J2C, podium'd at Sani, won SA Champs etc.

My thinking is as follows:

Adverse finding at the Epic under auspices of UCI. Process then followed and CSA advised of this. CSA keep all this very quiet as she is competing under a cloud but still sees fit to have her as SA Champ. UCI publishes finding and sanction on website and CSA is now forced to issue a statement, which they have done.

A new low for CSA (as if they can go any lower).

PS: Hanco please stop racing with known dopers, your tweets have zero credibility.

Firstly TUE's are a joke. Never heard of one being granted so taking moral high ground "applying for TUE is simple enough" doesn't help anyone as that's a theoretical construct.

There are plenty or people who develop elevated hbp for a while and exercise while medicated to treat the condition. Can't assess the situation without understanding what was being treated. If anything at all

uhm, you apply for one and once you have it you can carry on racing with the medication. Seems simple to me.

You don't have to be caught in the act of taking the banned substance/s to be regarded as a doper.
