How it works

The USN Epic Challenge is based on four individual challenges over an eight week period (12 October – 6 December 2016). Each challenge spans a two week period and will require you to achieve targets based on your Strava cycling activities.

Successfully complete all four challenges and you will be eligible to win one of the two Absa Cape Epic entries available.

Just for participating you’ll also stand a chance of winning one of five USN online shopping vouchers valued at R1500 each.

How do I enter?

  1. Sign up on http://usnepicchallenge.co.za/ using your Strava account;
  2. Start riding! Complete all four challenges and you could win one of two 2017 Absa Cape Epic team entries.

That 2500m climbing in a single 70km (or longer) ride is gonna be a toughy here in gautengaleng...hill repeats here we come, I'm sure a mini everest will be in order. I don't have a road bike (DAMN!) so I'll have to do all these challenges on a mtb

I'm in. Wife has signed off on it. Heading rapidly into the winter rainy season here in Ireland, so Mtb all the way. Time is the issue for the first two weeks. If I can get that done, then I will worry about the rest. It looks easy when it sits on the calendar, maybe not so easy adjusting the calendar to reality.

Ya, you must only ride on a road bike until the day before. Guaranteed a top 100 placing :-)

I looked on Strava flybys after my ride this morning to see who I went past - a group of them had done just over 100km this morning, but they started at 03h30!  So it's not about having a different job, it's about commitment!

I think if some guys worked as hard on their jobs as they do trying to win these entries they would just be able to buy one......

Nah, rather spend the hard earned cash on other toys for the price of an entry...

Question :

Challenge 4: Ride, ride, ride
Complete at least 3 rides (on consecutive days) with a total moving time of 12 hours or more

Can I do 2 rides of 2 hours each so that it gives me 4 hours a day, repeated over 3 days ?

or is it a single ride of 4 hours in a day ?

You can do as many rides as you want as long as it's 12 hrs or more within those three days.

My (almost) FIRST ride on 'n MTB was on the day before the start of my Epic.  Never done hydraulic brakes before that day.  Never done dual suspension before that day (one or two rides on 'n Giant Yukon hardtail)

I am a roadie by heart.

Came 76th overall.

Don't judge people on what bikes they ride........

ooffff...will have to save what I wanted to reply for Friday

Respect, I am not gifted that way - if I  get up to ride at 3 in the morning there is no way I can do my job properly no matter how committed I am.

You can do as many rides as you want as long as it's 12 hrs or more within those three days.

As nathrix ® ©™ says it's about logging 12 hours within a 3 day window. You can split those hours up over as many rides as you like, but they must all fall within 3 days.
