Williams has signed up for the Long MTB Triathlon. “I only used to take part in road events, but after recently starting mountain biking I am absolutely loving the off-road stuff,” says Williams. “There’s not much about a 40km bike TT that excites me lately. I would rather be getting dirty on my mountain bike. This will be the first time that I take part in the Slanghoek Triathlon, but from what I hear it is a fantastic event that is very picturesque. I expect the run to be the toughest part of the event. A 10km off-road run is always tougher than a road run and it will be made harder having to deal with the fatigue from the swim and bike legs.
“I am really looking forward to a day outdoors doing what I love followed by some time spent with like-minded people after the race. You also can’t beat that feeling of satisfaction that comes from completing a race. I have had a bit of a rough start to the season having struggled with illness and not being able to train for three weeks. So by the time Slanghoek comes around I hope to be fighting fit and able to put a good race together”.
