Fresh off our own homegrown World Championship race, this weekend sees the UCI World Cup heading to Norway. Steve Peat, via This is Peaty, gives us a walk through of this weekend’s Downhill course and some commentary about how he faired on it last year.
Set to host the World Championships next year, Hafjell Norway is the penultimate race for the downhillers this year, and the last for the XC and Eliminator racers.
The course this year looks to be very dry and very fast, unlike the wet and slippery conditions of last year. So racer’s setups should be quite different from last year’s and most certainly different from the ones used in Pietermaritzburg.
Gee Atherton currently leads the standings for the men’s Downhill, though Steve Smith — the winner in Norway last year — is within 120 points and could be in with a chance. On the women’s side, Emmeline Ragot is within 60 points of leader Rachel Atherton, and a win could see her leading the standings up to the last event.
The races will be shown on Red Bull TV, starting with the Women’s Elite on 14 September at 11:18 local time, while the Men and Women’s Downhill Finals will be on 15 September at 15:15.
As per the norm, the guys in the forums have been chatting and posting some cool videos about this weekend’s World Cup race in Norway.
