Team Contego-Giant’s Louis-Bresler Knipe will combine forces with international mountain biker Kevin van Hoovels from Belgium for the joBerg2c.
This multiday mountain bike stage race starts on 26 April till 4 May. Action starts at Keran Beef near Heidelberg in Gauteng and finishes 900km later in Scottburgh, KwaZulu-Natal. The route is 99,5% off-road with lots of jeep track, tons of singletrack, rural secondary road and very little district road.

Knipe and Van Hoovels have been training together in Cape Town since March and a few weeks ago decided to race together in the joBerg2c. “I’m really looking forward to the race and the opportunity to ride with Kevin. It is a special race with much diversity and I can’t wait to start.”
Both Knipe and Van Hoovels are excited to see how their combination will work. “We have a good idea what each other’s styles are,” said Knipe.
“I’m not sure what we are going to be capable of, but I’m looking forward to the experience. I’ve only heard good things about the race and Louis speaks really fond of it. After riding the Cape Epic three times I think it is time to do another race in South Africa. I don’t know yet what to expect of the racing, but I heard the food and the trails are good!” Van Hoovels added.
Knipe hopes that joBerg2c will be a new start to the season for him. “I haven’t made my mark yet this season, but if the body and the bike keeps up for the nine days I just know that we have the potential to set the race a light.”
