The multinational company with South African roots will be a headline sponsor, Absa Cape Epic Chief Executive Officer Lynn Naudé announced today.

USN is known globally for partnering with top sporting teams, individuals and events.

Said Naude, “We are delighted to welcome USN into the Absa Cape Epic sponsor family and look forward to working with the team over the next 5 years’’

USN’s Chief Executive Officer Albé Geldenhuys said the Absa Cape Epic is “the biggest and best event of its type in the world and we believe this is a great partnership for us.”.

Geldenhuys is an Absa Cape Epic finisher himself – he completed the race in 2009 – and USN has sponsored several teams taking part in the event, including the 2015 Women’s category winners Ariane Kleinhans and Annika Langvad.

“Our Epic Pro all-in-one Ultra Endurance Performance Fuel was designed specifically with the Absa Cape Epic in mind, and has fueled various Cape Epic category winners to victory” said Geldenhuys.

The success of Epic Pro gave rise to the USN PureFit range of products which are designed to accommodate athletes’ needs before, during and after endurance sport training and events. Geldenhuys says it “has all the kick that you need to conquer any route the Epic will throw at you … the range does not have any artificial ingredients or preservatives”.

USN’s online store will enable riders to get all the nutritional information and product they needed to get ready for the Absa Cape Epic and USN will have an activation zone at every race village to support riders.

“USN will soon be expanding the PureFit range around the world,” said Geldenhuys. “The Absa Cape Epic is the perfect platform to begin this process.”

USN was founded in 1999 with the aim of developing and delivering the most scientifically advanced, clinically aligned and safest sports supplementation possible and products are now available in over 50 countries across the globe

Yoh...but the pitchfork brigade is in full force.

On a side note...i once tried to put together a multi day event. Without sponsors its impossible.

You might not like USN. But at least they are financially contributing to events and this gives us opportunities to ride.

Remember the old saying...if you dont have anything nice to say. Don't say anything.

When the marketing bumph says 'New Di-hydrogen Oxide - our untapped resource' they will have gone too far. But sponsors are needed for events.

Sign of the times, corporate sponsorship is very very hard to come by, I expect it is a major challenge for Mr Vermaak, local corporates just dont have the budget he requires, relatively limited international exposure generated by the event, means little international interest outside of the cycling community. Doug Ryder on the other hand has just hit the big leagues, a serious coup in DD and Deloitte. Doug probably even had to buy himself a suit;).

(if we are being critical, even everyone's favourite race organisers took money from Bridge for a couple of years, but that seemed fine then)

Nothing wrong with them sponsoring the event as far as I'm concerned, glad they're putting money into the sport and sport in general. The criticism is kinda funny though because they brought it upon themselves by trying to sue that guy.

Thanks goodness - Energade in 2015 was just terrible.

Perhaps nobody saying it - Energade causes non-stop farts.

What would you make of advertising bumpf that declared a product to be "scientifically proven to reduce flatulence before, during and after exercise"?

There is - called Brooklax.

Can't afford to be flatulent once taken

Ja, and its effectiveness can be accurately measured comparatively by using average speeds between portaloos...

Have to come up with a catchy name though...ProLax? EpicLax? EnduroLax? NRG-Lax? Crea-Lax? H2O-Lax*?

*I think for this one you could just bottle straight out of many of the country's waterways...

???????????? nah, straight from the potato table....

EarthLax, PotatoLax

Would probably be easiest measurable and quantifiable product to determine efficacy

And they cannot bull**** the results..
