SRAM X01 Launch – Full Sus Debate

By BikeHubCoreAdmin · 13 comments

When SRAM first introduced the XX1 it was met with scepticism. But what was first looked at as weird has turned out to work, so well that SRAM has decided to expand on that idea and offer the 1×11 drivetrain in cheaper X0 form.

The recent big news out of the US was the launch of SRAM’s 1×11 drivetrain in the ever-popular, and cheaper X0 guise. The XX1 has been the go to drivetrain of top riders, or at least those with a choice, pretty much since its inception and with the introduction of the X0, you’ll be more readily able to run the same technology too. SRAM have cut costs on coatings and gone for heavier materials, but the technology is the same, and they say the X01 set-up should last longer too. But before you get too excited, a little birdy in the industry estimates that the X01 will only be around 10% cheaper, so you can still expect to pay well over 10K.

Get involved in our Full Sus debate and tell us what you think about the single chainring drivetrains – are they too expensive, a trick to get you off your old Shimano 3×10 or the only way forward.

It would be nice if we can get bigger 10 speed cassettes (10T - 42T) so that we can run 1x10. Currently standard 10 speed cassettes only go up till 36T.

If you only going to score about R1250-00 buying the X01 then you would be stupid not to buy top end in this case

You can't go smaller than 11t with the standard freehub, hence stepped freehub of the XX1. doesn't mean you can't go bigger at the back.

Yes that is correct and 11T - 42T would be great or anything bigger than the current 36T will help.

I could not agree more. And for me that is a heavy rider I need the 28 chainring and from my understanding the XO starts at 30. So yes, xx1 for sure.

Hoe did you do that?

You release the quick release and remove the wheel, you take your chain tool and lockring spanner and remove the old cassette. You then fit all in the reverse order.

I would definitely go with XX1 if I never had a XT groupo on.
