We are excited to reveal Team Randwater-Transnet new signing for the 2018 season, Shameeg Salie, sprinter and track rider making an impressive addition to the squad who adds more power and diversity to the roster.

Salie, came through the development ranks of HotChillee, then later rode for Team Dimension Data Continental and most recently for Team Alpha Body Works based in Cape Town. “Representing South Africa at the World Junior Track Championships was a great and memorable achievement,” he said. His goals don’t end there as he would like to one day represent the country at the Olympics and Commonwealth Games.

Salie is looking forward to joining the team, he hopes to regain full form and deliver good results for this season. “Team Randwater -Transnet’s link to the development of youngsters and support of them as individuals beyond the bike is crucially important. It’s great to ride for a cause bigger than yourself,” he added.

The 23-year-old added that he is a huge fan of the Giant brand and he cannot wait to take it out on the road. “It’s very responsive on the climbs and quick in sprints.”

“I’m also looking forward to working alongside such a great bunch of riders whom I’ve raced against in the past. They’re all great fun and hardworking. The fact that the team places such a big emphasis on the educational achievements of its riders impresses me so much! I agree 100% with this approach, as so many youngsters want to be professional cyclists, which is a great goal to have, but very few make it to the top and it’s crucial to have a long-term plan beyond the cycling. That’s where RW-Transnet got it right.”

Salie looks forward to making his debut at the Mpumalanga Cycle Tour from 13 to 18 January 2018.

Rider reveals for the next five days stay tuned.
