It is nearly time for one of the most popular mountain bike events in the country and it is all happening in the Boland wineland town of Stellenbosch this Sunday, 30 July. Thousands of riders will gather at Eikestad Primary School for the start of the Stellenbosch MTB Challenge that caters for all ages & rider abilities, as it offers six routes from 15km up to 75km.
Late entries are open online until Wednesday, 26 July until 12h00 for credit card payments only.
After that, late entries for all distances, will be accepted at the following venues & times:
Thursday, 27 July (Dirtopia Trail Centre, R44, Stellenbosch):
12h00-18h30
Friday, 28 July (Sports Science Institute Conference Centre, Newlands):
12h00 – 18h30
Saturday, 29 July (van der Stel Sportgrounds, Stellenbosch):
09h00 – 13h00
No late entries or changes to entries will be accepted on the event morning.
So many of the Stellenbosch wine farms and businesses are giving discount to the riders when they show their racenumber on the weekend! See the list of specials on the website. The event also supports the local communities that provide marshalling services and offer development entries to riders in need. The finish at Van Der Stel Sportsground in Stellenbosch will have Spur kids entertainment area with food & drink vendors, massages and other retail stalls.
All finishers receive a medal and there are wonderful prizes to be won, including accommodation and restaurant vouchers and of course, various bottles of Stellenbosch wine. A Giant Revel bike is also up for grabs in the lucky draw, as well as a Thule bikerack from the Stellenbosch shop!
Well stocked refreshment stations will be available on all routes, while Coke is setting up a massive drinks station at the finish. Medi-Clinic and ER24 will offer professional medical support on the day. Please see the website for road closures, cut-off, and spectator points. There will be a bike park at the finish where you can book in your bike at a nominal fee.
There are six distances to choose from: the 75 km (invitation race), 60 km, 50 km, 42 km, as well as the 30km and 15km fun rides. Routes cross more than 60 farms in the winelands region, making it a spectacular event that everyone can enjoy.
