A R20 000 donation from pro Team Liv-Plantur to a prominent, disadvantaged SA female cyclist will help her enter up to 40 races during 2016, her manager said.

Zanele Tshoko, from pro SA Team Rand Water, was identified by Plantur, co-sponsor of Team Liv-Plantur, as the recipient of kit and R20 000 during the team’s recent visit to SA for the Momentum 947 Cycle Challenge.

The Liv-Plantur team’s Sabrina Stultiens and Floortje Mackaij took second and third places respectively in the women’s race on Sunday. A day before racing, they handed a R20 000 cheque and kit to Tshoko (see video clip here).

Tshoko said she was “thrilled” with the donation, while her manager, Sipho Mona, from the Velokhaya Life Cycling Academy, said Tshoko would compete in about 40 races in 2016, including the National Championships in Durban in February. “The donation will go towards entries into those events,” he said.

The four Team Liv-Plantur riders spent this week training in the Cradle of Humankind, near Johannesburg, before flying out to Europe on Wednesday.
