Unfortunately with the exchange rate the way it is, you will find that when all the manufacturers bring out their new pricing, ours will be 'softer on the eye' :)

Yip, you are kind of getting nailed for being the early bird... Dollar is gonna hurt prices

I don't know how to put this, but Warren is kind of a big deal. People know him. He's very important. He has many leather-bound books and his apartment smells of rich mahogany.

Make him a local ambassador, give the chap a cap and T...he'll make you famous.

it is rumored that he can perform tjoopless conversions on 'krywa wiele' .... or so I have heard

Hi Nico,

As mentioned in a few posts, the ZAR and USD don't mix well and its taking a hammering. Our direct to market pricing will be appreciated as more manufacturers and retailers bring out there pricing.

With that said, we have kept our pricing as in-line with the US pricing, which is no mean feat, considering this is what's done by a consumer when they researching.

With regards to YT and Canyon, we can never compare ourselves to other countries and pricing, but party of the process was to look at costing a bike as a consumer to get a Canyon to SA, so worth noting is:

You need to pay 15% duties on that price, as they are complete.

You need to fly it in if you want it straight away (trust us, this is costly).

All the costs associated with shipping are in USD.

You pay VAT on landing it here.

When you take that into account, suddenly, its not the price you see converted to ZAR.

We just wanting to get niner into the place it should be, on top and we know that the pricing and volatility of the rand will find itself over the next few months and be appreciated.

Cheers,

Team Niner

No but that assumes I buy direct from YT and Canyon in the UK/Europe from SA.  That's no excuse to build those costs into your model just because that's what it would cost me to get a bike over here. How does that make you competitve???

On your model there is not much in it for me as consumer other than a bit of convenience and time.

Um... you are surely trolling here?

How do you think the bikes get here?

Ever heard of economies of scale?  Or do they ship each one across alone, incurring shipping costs per item equal to an individual trip?

I guess that's why SRAM won't put through an order for just your one random item but rather bundle it with a large order when that get's placed.

I understand economies of scale but it still isn't free and I don't see them bringing in a container full of every model.

Sure, but there should still be some saving for the consumer in SA when buying direct from a SA wholesaler compared to me going overseas to go direct, which doesn't seem to be the case here.  Hence, what's in it for me?
