New home for 2016 Cape Town Cycle Tour Expo

By Press Office · 14 comments

The Cape Town Cycle Tour Trust (CTCTT) has announced an exciting change for the annual Cape Town Cycle Tour Expo which will see it move from its regular home at the Good Hope Centre to the Cape Town Stadium in 2016.

Earlier this year the City of Cape Town confirmed that the Good Hope Centre will become a dedicated film studio from July 2016, impacting on the venue usage by local and international expos, shows and local community cultural events.

The Cape Town Cycle Tour Expo welcomes roughly 70 000 yearly visitors through its doors over the three day period and promotes cycling, fitness and a healthy lifestyle. The 2016 event will take place from Thursday, 3 March to Saturday, 5 March.

A director of the CTCTT, David Bellairs, says: “As the Good Hope Centre was not available to host our annual Cycle Tour Expo next year, we carefully considered other venue options to host an expo of this size and stature. The Cape Town Stadium in the Green Point precinct is the hub of the Cape Town Cycle Tour on Race Day including the finish area and hospitality village. We feel it provides the ideal location in terms of size, facilities, accessibility and safety. We are also confident the move will present a new set of possibilities and opportunities for visitors and exhibitors and look forward to this exciting new chapter for the Expo and Lifecycle Week.”

The City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Tourism, Events and Economic Development, Councillor Garreth Bloor, has welcomed the event’s move to the Cape Town Stadium, citing it as a step in the right direction for the Mother City landmark to be used to its full potential. “We are pleased that our iconic Cape Town Stadium will be used as the new venue for the Cape Town Cycle Tour Expo, and are certain that all attendees will have a pleasant experience. The economic benefit of large events that attract domestic and international participants to the city has been incredible. A world-class venue coupled with this popular event can only augur well to attract more participants in the coming years and grow the event,” says Bloor.

The move to the Cape Town Stadium will provide visitors and exhibitors with extra space, safe parking, a central and easily accessible location, and world-class facilities. A greater selection of products and services is also possible as the venue can accommodate up to 400 stands. Information regarding general entry fees, parking and other finer details will be announced in early 2016.

OKeeeDoKeee.....I'm open minded and anything will be better than the old place, I hope. I think it is good to have it in that spot, I'm just not sure how it will fit into the stadium? Wait and see, I suppose.

Sounds exiting, maybe add some live bike entertainment to the mix. Lots of possibilities here.

It's not exactly fresh news this though. They where already talking about it at this year's race. Also there is a concert(or something like that)at the stadium on the second sunday of march hence the reason the date change to a week earlier than normal.

I'll ride my bike along the cycle path to collect my number, hopefully they will have a very secure bike parking facility. Riding to the Good Hope Centre was a bit tricky and locking your bike outside was just looking for trouble.

I think most were expecting a move to CTICC, so this will come as a bit of a surprise.

Hopefully it works well.

Loyal GHC goers will no doubt be disappointed.  ;)
