Kevin Evans accepts doping charge

By Press Office · 1614 comments

Cycling South Africa reports that the South African Institute for Drug-Free Sport (SAIDS) has charged mountain bike cyclist, Kevin Evans with doping after identifying serious irregularities in his Athlete Biological Passport (ABP) – a profile of the athlete’s blood parameters.

Mr. Evans accepted the charge of doping and did not contest the findings. The ABP is a longitudinal analysis and the suspicious readings were identified over a period of time, therefore the athlete’s results extending back to 14 March 2014 will be disqualified, with all of the resulting consequences, including forfeiture of any medals, points and prizes.

He will be banned from sport for four years as of 4 March 2015 until 3 March 2019. The athlete has however indicated that he has retired from professional cycling.

Cycling South Africa respects the independence of the SAIDS process. Cycling South Africa further reiterates its zero-tolerance approach to doping in sport and will continue working with SAIDS in the promotion of a drug-free sport via its awareness and extensive testing programmes.

And David Millar cam out yesterday to say "This is the greatest ever generation of Grand Tour riders”

I get he's an advocate for anti doping but he's not exactly the cheers squad that I'd want giving me props. :)

Vets gets tested almost every race.  I have been tested a couple of times.

Spidey, you and I must be doing different races. I've been racing sub-vets for five years. Been on the podium multiple times, even at SA champs, and I've only ever been tested once - at 94.7 one year. And that was just urine. So I think a vet who wanted to blood dope could do it without any fear of getting popped.

But I agree with you; the money is better spent on testing the elites and u23.

The beauty in these threads is the self righteous hypocrisy.

Some act as if they are the finest genetic specimens and will never circumstances to illness.

Then there are those who hero worship. Their idols never dope nor their anti hero's all dope lol

What great entertainment

I am afraid you still have the cat by the hairy balls.....Sauser is not a hero of mine at all....but if it that makes you happy...have at it

Oh and GLuvs said it so well  ;)

Nope.. only cycling names and shames.. the press is only interested in the cycling doping. .not at all interested in making a fuss about doping in RUGBY. . Never.. how could they possibly shine a light on the doping in not just high level rugby..but schools rugby.

So the skinder is that of the players in a 23 man high school first team squad if they had to be bust only 4 wouldn't serve bans.. I wish I knew more and not just skinder. . Cause I swear if i actually knew more I would most def give details to anti doping..

Maybe it should become my mission lol

I remember a while ago (maybe a couple of years) there was issues around school boy rugby and doping.

I heard (unconfirmed) its the institutions that was giving the kids the stuff to get better. Some of these stories came out of good schools where the parents have a lot of money to put the kids in so a few grand a month isn't a big expense, whether the parents know about it or now.

Chili boy (blou bulle) was banned a while ago for using a pre workout (i think it was the earlier versions of jack 3d can't remember) with banned stuff in it and he was kicked out of rugby for a while.

Found an article.

http://www.sport24.co.za/Rugby/Springboks/Chiliboy-handed-two-year-doping-ban-20150907

So no, its not just cycling, its just because you are interested in cycling that you read more about it.

Even the classifieds are annoying, and its not so much opinion that is annoying, but opinion that differs from your own that is annoying (or did I miss something?).

I'm scared to offer an opinion now... but in anycase, some interesting reading http://www.spankingfit.com/world-wide-pandemic-caused-gene-doping/ and of course, take it where it comes from!

" The source of the current world wide health crisis has finally been identified: genetic doping activities in professional sports! Contagious virus vectors, developed to insert high performance genes into players’ genomes, are causing the current cancerous pandemic.

News headlines such as these certainly are frightening. Luckily, up to now, they are fictional only. Nevertheless, they may actually portend a future health crisis, if gene doping practices continue as such in professional sports. In this piece, Spanking FIT examines the potential for such a crisis to occur; but, first, we quickly review the findings of our prior investigation of traditional doping with focus on the Lance Armstrong affair.".....

They need to make doping a criminal offense  as it is in Italy- Remember the police arresting Festina at the TDF in 19??

Ken now just sits back and says he is retired. IT IS FRAUD !

How many guys has he ridden out of a possible sponsorship? How much money did he earn as a pro cyclist. If he could be charged with fraud it would be a different ball game ;)

Thing is, it's pretty hard to fix the outcome of a cycling race. Doping seems like it would be more a sort of attempted fraud rather than an actual fraud.

Definition of hypocrisy. plural hy·poc·ri·sies. : the quality of acting in a way that goes against claimed beliefs or feelings. (Merriman-Webster)

Perhaps you could point out one or two specific examples within this thread? I don't know anyone in this thread personally so it's not possible for me to assess behaviour against stated claims. Maybe you do know some of the people and can therefore accurately label them as hypocrites.

Although i do agree that harsh punishments are not unwarrented for PRO cyclists, what do you suggest for the recreational cyclist who gets caught for something banned? They arent there making a living of the sport, dont take away sponsorships and sometimes are unaware off the banned list. Hence the problem overall. Once you set a precident, it needs to be applied equally across the board. So servere punishments are givene, but jail time is maybe a stretch to far?
