The 116km is a CSA-sanctioned event with cash prizes in all the CSA racing categories. The 62km will be awarding category prizes in all relevant age groups. The Para category will cater to Para tandems, handcycles, recumbents, etc, The 8km Fun ride is geared for younger riders and novices. All abilities are welcome as we celebrate diversity and inclusivity in cycling.

The organisers are actively promoting the Para Category especially the Tandem event to the Disabled community and hope in this way to empower people and change lives.

Finisher medals, fully stocked water points, and an exciting prize giving will be waiting for you at the finish. A feature of the prize giving will be the awarding of the winner of the popular Dis-Chem Foundation Donation draw. All cyclists who donate R50 or more on their entry will be entered into a draw to win an Orbea Gravel Bike from Cycle Lab valued at R45 000.  Other great prizes are up for grabs and these will be drawn from 12h00.

Why this event

ALL proceeds go directly to supporting South African patients losing their vision due to retinal blinding conditions. The success and pace of research have added pressure to our cause as we need to ensure that imminent treatments are accessible to all eligible South Africans. Over the past 35 years, the event has raised over R10 Million to Retina SA’s research and empowerment projects

The event is uniquely organised by a volunteer steering committee, all specialists in their fields of communications, disaster management, event management, and road cycling. This ensures that every rand raised goes directly to the cause and is not filtered through an events management company.

Retina South Africa is the only patient-led NPO working to support and empower South Africans with retinal vision loss. We create awareness, advocate for better services for visually disabled people, and ensure that international trials and treatments are available to all South Africans.
