Eliminator is a short course (500m – 1km) heat racing format combining the skills of all cycling disciplines and can be run on any terrain. Riders race 4 at a time across the short, fast and testing course with the top 2 advancing to the next round and the bottom 2 being eliminated from the event. The racing is elbow to elbow, fast and exciting with explosive straights and technical obstacles and corners to challenge the riders. The racing structure allows spectators to get up close to the competition as well as being able to witness all the thrills and spills of the competitive action of the whole course from one area!
This format is great for introducing new riders to the sport of mountain biking as they get to learn new skills and experience the thrill of racing without needing the ability to ride at a high pace over many kilometers. We have 3 new courses which will deliver some great racing action! This year has already seen a number of new names in the entries, including a good number of schools entering. Paul Roos Gymnasium have made their intensions clear, they are coming to win! After finishing second overall last year to a dominant Hoérskool DF Malan team, the boys from Stellenbosch have rallied up the troops encouraging a large contingent of grade 8’s to enter the series. Paul Roos Gymnasium will be hoping this strategy pays off, but rivals from just down the road Paarl Boys High have also entered a strong numbered team and so too have Velokhaya and Durbanville High. Hoérskool DF Malan are going to have their work cut out for them this year as they try to defend their title as the defending Champs and clinch not only the trophy, but the R10 000 for team cycling kit from Enjoy Fitness as well as the Rayne Camera on offer for the winning school.
We have a great course prep for the riders this weekend at Stellenbosch High School, with some long fast straights perfect for over taking, tight corners and 3 sets of stairs as the riders sprint across the corridors of the school. Although a short course, Stellenbosch never fails to deliver on scenery with spectacular mountain views overlooking the school field. Registration for the event starts at 9am on Sunday, so no need to wake up too early, once number boards are collected riders can test the course until Rider Briefing at 9:45am with the first race starting at 10am. Racing should be wrapped up by latest 1pm with a great raffle draw happening at prize giving – so we advise all riders to hang around.
Entries are still OPEN till tomorrow Friday 30 January 2pm. Entries can be done online: www.onemovement.co.za R150 gets you entered into all 3 events as well as a breakfast roll at the final event at Bloemendal Wine Estate on 15 February.
