From www.letour.fr:

Impey the overall leader: the new top five of the 100th Tour…

History has been made: Daryl Impey moves from second overall to first. He finished the stage in 13th place while his team-mate and former race leader Simon Gerrans was 48th. This means that the South African has taken the yellow jersey and he is the first from his country to lead the Tour de France.

The new top five is:

1. Daryl Impey (RSA) OGE

2. Edvald Boasson Hagen (NOR) SKY – at 3″

3. Simon Gerrans (AUS) OGE – at 5″

4. Michael Albasini (SUI) OGE – at 5″

5. Michal Kwiatkowski (POL) OPQ – at 6″

After watching the "backstage pass" of day six, I am proud to say I cried. Simon Gerrans, you are a real man. Simon, Darryl and the whole team, you make me proud, not just as a cyclist or South African, but as a man.

Will watch every second of today's stage and truly hope you can keep the jersey after today. It will be a(nother) massive test of caracter.

GOOOOO!

Quote from Gerrans, kudos to him...

“During yesterday’s stage when I had the yellow jersey on, I was really enjoying the experience,” said Gerrans. “I thought this could be a once in a lifetime opportunity. I basically wouldn’t be in yellow without the support of Daryl. At that point, I decided it would be a really nice gesture to pass it on to him for a day or two.”

“I went into today’s stage with the plan of helping in the sprint and then drifting back in the bunch,” Gerrans continued. “We all had to be together in the final to pass it over like that. The first objective was to keep the jersey within the team and ride for the sprint. While riding for the sprint, it would be simple to pass it over because it was only a matter of stage places on count back. Today I had the opportunity to change the life of a good mate of mine. That’s why I decided to do it. Who wouldn’t?”

We headed to the podium, I changed in the change rooms, waited for them to call me up – and then to see such a massive crowd and get such a amazing applause, I couldn’t stop smiling, I have always wanted a lion too which I will be given to my son Ayden. It was so emotional and a day I would never forget.
