Get ready to enter for the 2017 Absa Cape Epic

By Press Office · 91 comments

The Absa Cape Epic 2017 entry process has changed with the introduction of an international lottery.

  • As happened in previous years, 100 Early Bird entries will be available on 21 March – the day after this year’s event. These slots are available to anyone, South African or international, on a first-come-first-served basis. The advantage of securing an Early Bird slot is that an entry is secured immediately and successful applicants have a full year of training available. The 2017 price of Early Bird entries is R67 900 for South African and international riders.
  • This will be followed by two separate lottery processes – one for international riders and another for South African residents.
  • South African lottery: Available to South African residents with a valid SA ID number. The lottery opens immediately after the Early Bird entries sell out, and closes on 30 May. South Africans will pay the SA Rand entry fee.
  • International lottery: International team entry fee for all riders without an SA ID number. The lottery opens immediately after the Early Bird entries are sold out, and closes on 30 May. Non-South African residents will be charged 5 490 US Dollars.

Please go to the Absa Cape Epic website http://www.cape-epic.com/news/821/us-dollar-fee-introduced-for-international-riders/ for background on the introduction of the international lottery.

What's that? 20% increase in this year's entry fee?

They should stop fooling around and just pop it to R80 000

Man i'm glad i did it when the entry was +/- R48k per team

That $5490 will get u a swiss epic "comfort" package of 7 nights in a 3star hotel, 7 x breakfast / dinner and luggage transport between race villages

And then you will still have +/- $1000 in change

If I was an international entry in 2017 I would feel ripped off with the cost of entry.

Don't see why overseas entries should be expected to pay more... it is going to be simply to expensive for your average non sponsored rider.

It's like they are trying to discourage private non sponsored riders across the board.

It is like the Cape Town restaurants giving tourists a different menu with much higher prices. Shocking!!

perhaps the time has come to stop thinking of the epic as a ride for the masses. it is clearly no longer an amateur race - only sponsored riders can do this, which is very close to a professional outfit,

the thread comparing the epic to the tdf is very fitting in this regard.

But if the masses don't enter..how will they pay for every thing and make a profit[emoji6]

I really want to do it, but at that price its very steep. I will still try and find a sponsor or some old sugar mommy who is almost kicking the bucket. Then I will take one for the team.... Problem Solved :clap:

Every year we complain about the price and every year the early bird entries are sold oit faster that you can left click on your mouse.

We saw even less Epic etries up for grans on the Hub this year.

Until that change, I recon they can ask what they want.

The organizers got the route badly wrong this year, in my opinion. To pay what we did to push our bikes around what passes for mountain bike routes in Tulbagh, was an absolute disgrace. In the unlikely event that I shell out what must have added up to 100k ( entry, accom upgrade, bike mechanic, spare, services, flights and accom for family, etc) to do this race again, I will first wait for the route to be advertised.

I loved the 2014 route, this was nothing like it.

Ok I'll bite. The correct price is where

S=D+1

Where

S= supply

D= demand

Lets see if they sell it out or not.

... But how is hubland going to respect you if you take premium upgrades?! Tent it and ride barefoot... because real men don't wear shoes either.

Hence my statement! Stop mocking around and see what people really will pay for this. Good social experiment
