Gauteng Junior Eliminator Series Round 1 this weekend

By Press Office · 0 comments

With just over 60 entries coming in yesterday alone, Gauteng has definitely stolen the tag “Slaapstad” from Cape Town. What was expected to be a medium field for round one of the Junior Eliminator Series due to SA XCO Champs taking place in Cape Town the day before has flourished into what promises to be a hotly contested day.

There are some strong numbers of entrants from a variety of teams who will be battling it out for the Overall Series prize of R10 000 from Enjoy Fitness for cycling kit and a Rayne Camera valued at R2500, this and the bragging rights of being crowned Gauteng champs for 2015.

Round one for Gauteng kicks off this Sunday 19 July, where we are revisiting Sutherland High School who hosted us last year. We already have 20 school teams represented including last years champions, the Diepsloot MTB Academy who will be looking to defend that title. Entries are still open and can be done online: www.onemovement.co.za

Eliminator is a short course heat racing format where four riders at a time race around a course roughly 800m in length, only doing one lap with a variety of obstacles to test their skills. Each heat last about one to two minutes – it’s a flat out sprint with the top two finishers advancing to the next round and the bottom two being eliminated from the event. The format is very spectator friendly, as with such a short course, majority of the racing can be viewed from one spot. The format also gives all riders an equal opportunity to excel as (especially with the youth) they are all capable of putting out speed and power for that amount of time and distance.

The Junior Eliminator Series is heading into its final leg for 2015 already being completed in Western Cape and KwaZulu Natal, as with those two provinces, our sponsors have once again outdone themselves! A massive thank you to Trek Bikes, Fox Racing, Enjoy Fitness, Skullcandy, OGIO and Rayne Cams for all their support during the series. Every entrant from the whole series will go into the final raffle draw to stand a chance to win a Trek MTB bike valued at R70 000!
