FNB Wines2Whales (W2W) is proud to continue its support of the Thandi Community Crèche.
Founded in March 2011 by Friends of Thandi, a British based charity organization that donated a prefab building, with furniture, books and all amenities including a copier and a telephone, the goal of the Thandi Community Crèche is to care for children from the community while their parents are at work. The crèche receives an annual donation from FNB W2W to cover their operational expenses. This year the donation amounted to R20 000.
According to Elizabeth Van Wyk of the Thandi Community Crèche, currently the crèche has three caregivers that take care of twenty-one children. “The children vary in age from three months to five years. We are open five days a week. The children arrive at 06:40 and have Freeplay until 08.00 when they have their breakfast together in the big play room. Afterwards everybody returns to their classrooms where they follow a daily program that makes provision for morning ring, educational ring, music ring, story ring, outside play and nap time. They also have two snack periods as well as a lunch period before they go home the evening.”
“The Crèche benefits tremendously from the support received from FNB W2W,” continues Van Wyk. “We were recently able to purchase a computer as well as a microwave. We would appreciate it if the community could participate more actively in our fundraising events and help us cheer at the FNB W2W MTB events in November.”
Situated in the Lebanon Village, FNB W2W MTB participants will pass by the Thandi Community Crèche during stage two of each FNB W2W MTB Event (Adventure, Ride and Race).
