First Look: All new Trek Slash 29

By Press Office · 20 comments

The new Trek Slash 29 for 2017 is built for top-tier enduro racing with 29˝ tires, full carbon frame, and focused spec.

When Trek engineers redesigned Slash to be the ultimate enduro bike, they looked to the equipment choices of the Trek Factory Racing enduro squad. Top riders like reigning Enduro World Series Champion Tracy Moseley favored Remedy 29 for its fast-rolling wheels, but made spec changes to suit the rigors of burly enduro stages, adding a longer 160mm-travel fork, tougher SuperEnduro tires, and reservoir shocks that would hold up under those rough sustained descents. Whereas the recently released Remedy focuses on fun-loving 27.5˝ wheels, the new Slash raises the bar for long-travel 29ers, taking its cues from these TFR race bikes.

Designed around the 29˝ wheel size and 150mm of rear travel with Trek’s patented and proven Active Braking Pivot, Slash is the stiffest 29er frame Trek has ever made—so much so that it rivals and bests our downhill bike in many stiffness measures. Its Straight Shot downtube combined with Boost hub spacing makes for an extra-stout stage smasher that won’t flinch through even the most punishing rock gardens. As Slash is focused on racing, it’s offered in full carbon only, with two complete bike models and a frameset. Both Slash 9.8 and Slash 9.9 RSL feature spec choices favored by the fastest enduro racers, including 1x drivetrains, 130mm/160mm travel-adjust forks, and piggyback shocks like the Fox Float X2 or RockShox Super Deluxe.

Slash 9.9 RSL, like Trek’s entire Race Shop Limited line, is built to meet the demands of the most discerning racers and athletes. With additional suspension adjustments, a Rapid Drive rear hub, and SRAM’s new X01 Eagle 1×12 drivetrain, no other stock bike comes close to this degree of race capability straight out of the box.

The all-new Slash is the most focused enduro race bike Trek has ever created. It’s an uncompromising performance machine that’s determined to dominate every stage and win the toughest races. Expect to see it under Trek Factory Racing enduro riders like René Wildhaber, Tracy Moseley, Katy Winton, and Casey Brown throughout the summer.

Ma se eiers maar dis mooi. Now you see, this thing is almost too butiful. Would actually feel bad thrashing it through a rock garden.

Seat angle is a tad slack.

dirt is pretty easy to map and fake on renders, the threadlock on some bolts and grease on the BB would be my giveaways that those are photos.  But they're damn good photos! and a very clean bike - that I would love to ride!

No they are definitely photos, they just used an enormous softbox. The point I was trying to make is that the photos are so well lit, that it looks like renders.

Considering Rachel Atherton is on her new Slash, I would say these are photos...I love the lines of this bike!

Seat angle is a tad slack.

it may look that way but take the "effective seat angle" from the BB to the top of the seat post and you'll find its pretty standard. they have curved the seat tube to accommodate the suspension movement etc.
