With a scourge of xenophobia sweeping across parts of KwaZulu-Natal and further a field in recent weeks the aQuellé Tour Durban presented by Sunday Tribune’s owners, the Domino Foundation, have become inspirational in helping foreigners displaced by the violence and are using the Tour Durban to gather funds through the purchasing of arm bands in the lead up to the event on Sunday 26 April.
The arm bands that the Domino Foundation have made will be available for purchase at the Tour Durban Expo that is happening at the Suncoast Casino and Entertainment World on the Friday and Saturday before the event.
The Domino Foundation has been hugely involved in helping feed the victims of xenophobia in the refugee camps and they are using the Tour Durban as a way to take a stand against attacks on foreign nationals.
They are going to get 1000 armbands made which say “NO to Xenophobia” and will be selling them at registration for R25. They would like to encourage cyclists to purchase them to show their support or to ride with a black armband on race day. Proceeds from the sale of armbands will go towards feeding the victims. The Domino Foundation are providing 3 000 meals a day to the victims in the camps and they would like to fundraise to assist with costs.
With the limited supply of armbands the Domino Foundation pleads with the riders to all wear black armbands in support of their efforts as well as make a donation and say no to xenophobia.
