“I have yet to be disappointed by a Stillwater Sports event,” says De Groot who is currently the National Marathon Champion. “I’m coming down to race so I will definitely push myself, but I am also looking forward to a good weekend with likeminded people. I have ridden at Meerendal twice this year. It has incredible MTB trails and an awesome venue in terms of hospitality and family enjoyment. It’s fantastic to see that the festival caters for children too. I wish we had these events when I was a child.”

Kleinhans’ goal is identical to that of De Groot. “As a racer my goal is to stand on the podium at the end of the race, but also to have a good time getting there,” says Kleinhans. “I don’t often get to ride the Meerendal /Durbanville trail network, so I am really looking forward to having some fun. I love the spacious venue and big lawns, while the riding terrain is mostly through Fynbos with shorter, steeper climbs and single track everywhere. It is super fun and exactly what I like to see in a MTB race.”

“Although my focus will be on the 60km Fedhealth MTB Challenge, I do love the idea of a packed weekend,” continues Kleinhans. “There is literally something for everyone to do, from the parents to the kids and even the Enduro riders. I can’t wait to relax on the grass with a hotdog and beer after the race.”

Fedhealth XTERRA Warriors, Stuart Marais and Nico Pfitzenmaier will also be seen in action during the 60km Fedhealth MTB Challenge.

Closing off a weekend of exceptional mountain biking as part of the ISUZU MTB Festival Cape Town, mountain bikers not yet comfortable with a 60km route can sign up for the less daunting 35km Fedhealth MTB Challenge or the fun 15km Fedhealth MTB Challenge.
