Contego Segment Hunter #3: The battle for Cape Cobra

By BikeHubCoreAdmin · 99 comments

The third instalment of Contego Segment Hunter at Hoogekraal’s Cape Cobra turned out to be a fiercely contested battle.

Shortly after announcing the segment, Darryn Stow’s title was snatched by Die Muishond. Darryn went back to rectify things but that KOM fell a few hours later when Tiaan Jordaan raised the bar with an outstanding effort setting a new mark of 9:13. This put our challenger, Nils Hansen, under some serious pressure to perform, forcing him to employ some drastic measures.

Tiaan wins with South Industries

The team at South Industries were super impressed with Tiaan’s KOM claiming efforts on Cape Cobra. Through some light Strava stalking they noticed that Tiaan had recently broken a rim. South Industries jumped into action.

How do I ride this segment?

Hoogekraal Cape Cobra (Down & Up) is on the Hoogekraal farm just off Vissershok Road in Durbanville and is part of the larger Tygerberg MTB Club trail network.

There are two options available: 1) place cash into the honesty box or 2) pay using the Snapscan app on your phone. The current permit fee is R40 per rider.

How sure are we that Tiaan Jordaan wasn't on an e-bike?

Very sure.

I've been following him on Strava from the days of when I was faster than him to now where I'm just an insignificant blip in the background...  It's quite depressing really.

But he puts in the training time, and he's a machine.

It's legit. Tiaan is an animal. No e-bikes.

I saw my first eBike KOM on the Tygerberg trails recently. Hmmm... Atleast him and his buddy were fairly obvious about it. #Makeitprivate or everyone starts doubting the animals!

They should come to Wellington and do a few segments on the black route. I am willing to bet plenty that no matter who they bring they won't beat the current record on Alp d'huez

Hey DirtyDan

Thanks for that vote of confidence, Big up to you!!!

If you ever feel the need that I need to prove myself just let me know.

Its such a shame that whenever any person is excelling in a achievement there is always people who doubt others abilities. Ive been putting in the hours, have a look at strava all my training is public, but guess its easier to accuse somebody than rather to investigate first.

I dont know whether its insecurity, jealousy or just small man syndrome but I do hope my word is good enough, think i could get a vote of confidence there?

Its such a good gesture form the guys at Contego, BikeHub, South Industries to give us the opportunity to go out and have fun lets not kill the dream from the  bonds we develop through this great sport cycling.
