The hottest trend in mountain bikes this year is 27.5-inch wheels. Originally known as 650B size, this new "tweener" size falls between traditional 26-inch wheels and 29-inch wheels. Why the new size? Many folks feel that 27.5-inch wheels are "just right," combining the best of both worlds--the increased traction and ability to roll over obstacles of the large 29er wheels, with the lower weight and quicker handling of 26-inch wheels. Also, the 27.5-inch wheel size alleviates problems that some riders have experienced with frame design and fit related to the 29er wheels, especially for women and smaller riders
