i haven't ridden her as i don't want to spoil her for her next owner

brief rationale :
i was looking for a light tourer and a gravel bike to mission on south africa"™s dirt roads .
david malan & nils hansen both spoke of the legendary supple ride of steel frames , and they said they had just the thing for me
a wolverine
then he showed me the gravel tyres , coffee brown sidewalled shikkoro"™s!
and ever since i"™ve been battling to combine the proportions of colour to brown .
so i went for coffee brown saddle & bartape , and made the rest kinda stealthy retro tech , mostly black , hints of silver .
high tech you can"™t see in a rohloff hub and the no-maintenance gates carbon drive
it"™s incredible how such a technically packed machine can appear so minimal
i think i"™ll christen her double espresso
the [ long ] tale of the wolverine .
it all started with david malan from everyday cycle co. , my colleague from industrial design student days .
he told me about this steel bike that could do everything well , a light tourer , a gravel bike , an everyday ride.
a beast called a wolverine he said .
we figured out a size , 58 , and a colour , matte black .
then we chose tyres , soma shikkoro , but they had coffee coloured sidewalls !
sjoe ! brown ! sjoe !
so the entire build became a mission to work with coffee brown , to find a matching saddle , bar tape
i finally settled on giles berthoud - as everyone else"™s browns were too honey coloured
i figured the palette would be s base of matte black , with a fair amount of coffee brown and hints of silver
then to imbue this retro bike with some stealth tech ,
rohloff internal hub 14 spd , 520% ratio"™s , excitement ! expense ! ah ! ebay ! lost five painful online auctions !
finally we bought a silver one and sprayed it black .
if there"™s too little frustration in your life , try specc"™ing gates carbon drive parts !
learning : go to the local agent etienne from black frog

i went through three ways of triggering the rohloff , settled on gebla rohbox that triggers the rohloff through certain [ adapted ] brifters
i loved the yokozuna cable actuated hydraulic disk brakes , gorgeous compressionless cables
and finally we waited six months for the rohloff carrier adaptor that"™s insanely hard to get hold of ! like anywhere , in the world !
