I bought this bike to accompany my daughter on rides. At the time I (then 41) hadn't ridden a bike since high school and was due for spinal surgery, so I chose a bike that was easy to ride and made me feel safe and confident. The upright position means you have great visibility and don't have to strain to keep an eye on your kids, and the top tube design and low stand-over height makes getting on and off the bike super easy.
It gave me SUCH confidence that I ended up buying a hardtail a year later and taking on more gnar.
This bike is so incredibly easy to ride, comfortable, reliable and capable. It carried me safely over hundreds of kms, and even a couple of events including Cradle Mountain Challenge and Mabalingwe Lion Man. It did so many coffee rides and family ice cream outings! It's still the bike I choose for road and paved paths. It absolutely FLIES along the bike paths at Steyn City. Having a kick stand makes it easy to get off the bike and park it to help your kiddos. It's so much more than a commuter bike, but that's the closest category on the Hub.
It has a 1x10 wide range groupset which is B'Twin (Microshift Advent). The original coil fork was replaced with a Fox air fork. The original Tektro mechanical disc brakes were upgraded to Tektro Draco hydraulic. Tyres were replaced with Pirelli Cinturato Gravel M (tubeless).
This bike has a 4.3 rating on the Decathlon UK website in stock form. It’s a very popular touring bike in Europe in stock form.
It's a Medium frame so suited for riders 155-173cm.
Meticulously maintained by Mellow Velo and will have a wash and lube before the new owner takes delivery.
Bike is sold as seen in the pics with saddle bag, top tube bag and front and rear lights. I can swap the saddle to a touring (wider, softer) saddle if needed and I can change the pedals to plastic flats. Whatever bits you'd like you'll just get on and ride and never look back. It can easily take a kiddo carrier, panniers, etc.
Only selling as my daughter out-rides me these days and the bike is just sitting in the bike room (yes, this bike inspired a bike room LOL) begging to be ridden. I was keeping it as a touring bike but as a homeschooling mom and business owner the chances of actually getting to tour are minimal.
Fair offers considered.
