Perfect for Reinardt Janse van Rensburg, Stage 12 to Taragona was a sprint stage, seeing him finish 8th. While Stage 13 saw Warren soloing to the win, heavy rain and steep climbs mark Stage 14 as one of the hardest of the 2013 Vuelta a España so far. With a crash at 70km/h, Reinardt had trouble placing better than 125th. Stage 15, though saw slightly better weather conditions and more flat sections, but was no less difficult because of the length of the stage.

A preview of Stage 20, taking place on 14 September and featuring one of the toughest climbs on the cycling calendar — Alto de L’Angliru, 12.2km long and with an average gradient of 10.2 percent.
