Vincenzo Nibali, born in 1984 near the Strait of Messina and commonly known as “the Shark of Strait” in the pro peloton, is considered one of the strongest stage race riders in the world today.

Nibali began his pro career in 2005 and in the last decade has won four Grand Tours (two Giro d’Italia, one Tour de France, and one Vuelta Espana), making him one of only six riders in the history of the sport to have won all three grand tours.

He will captain BAHRAIN MERIDA Cycling Team surrounded by a roster of talented riders selected to help achieve the ambition to create a globally recognized pro cycling team.

Speaking about joining the BAHRAIN MERIDA Pro Cycling Team, Nibali commented, “I was immediately fascinated by the idea of a strong project plan built around me. I have believed in the team from day one, because it has a clear vision and is to be carried out by some of the best professionals in the sport.

“This trust and confidence in me made me take the final decision for this new exciting adventure of my career. I can’t wait to meet their expectations at the most important races in the world wearing the jersey of BAHRAIN MERIDA.”

So Nibali can support Louis like he supported Aru.

Both Nibali and Valverde are about as capable in the support role as Aru/Quintana is in a leadership role.
