South Africa’s mountain bike marathon championships are less than a month away and the crew at Induna Adventures are finalising preparations of their already immaculate trails in Hazyview to welcome all participants on Saturday 1 June.
Situated on the Panorama Route and only 20 minutes from the Kruger National Park, Induna Adventures’ First Ascent Big Induna MTB Challenge will host the 2013 SA Mountain Bike Marathon Championships in Mpumalanga and the team is working around the clock to perfect the trails for both rider and spectator value.
The elite categories and age group (non-elite) categories will all be racing for top honours on the same day at the same venue in Hazyview, Mpumalanga.
The 120km elite men’s course (aged 19 and up) is made up of the 75km route with the final 35km section to be ridden again, while the elite women (aged 19 and up) will be required to complete the 75km route for the championship race.
Non-elite category riders have the opportunity to race on the same tracks and trails that has made this venue popular for mountain bike marathon events for many years. Sub-veteran men and women, veteran men and women and master men will also race on the 75km route, while the 40km race route will be reserved for the youth men and women, junior men and women, master women and grand master men and women age categories competing for national championship status.
Infamous for the quality and abundance of trails, Induna Adventures have properly utilised the lie of the land and created a spectacular mix of single track, quad trails and dirt roads characterised by hand cut trails snaking through indigenous forest. The course serves up a mix of short sharp climbs, rock shelves, rooty drops and fast bermed switchbacks, with a few shallow water crossings for added enjoyment. Participants with skill and determination will thrive beyond mere fitness.
Camping is available at the venue for those who wish to soak up the race atmosphere.
