From www.letour.fr:

Impey the overall leader: the new top five of the 100th Tour…

History has been made: Daryl Impey moves from second overall to first. He finished the stage in 13th place while his team-mate and former race leader Simon Gerrans was 48th. This means that the South African has taken the yellow jersey and he is the first from his country to lead the Tour de France.

The new top five is:

1. Daryl Impey (RSA) OGE

2. Edvald Boasson Hagen (NOR) SKY – at 3″

3. Simon Gerrans (AUS) OGE – at 5″

4. Michael Albasini (SUI) OGE – at 5″

5. Michal Kwiatkowski (POL) OPQ – at 6″

"Today I had the opportunity to change the life of a good mate of mine. That’s why I decided to do it. Who wouldn’t?” - Gerro and he lead him out.

You can give us *** all you want but what makes the aussie attitude so good is that we'll play sport hard and win at all costs but your mates and true mateship trumps even that.

Today actually gave me more goose bumps than when Gerro took it.

Absolutely bloody fantastic. I had tears in my eyes. And cudos to Gerrans. Can't ask for a better mate than that.

Just did 2h spinning while watching. Felt like '95 and 2007. PROUD! Great interview (as opposed to The Missile's loose ramblings)

In honour of the man, everyone should change their avatars to an Impey until he loses yellow.

Couple of years ago, when Robbie won his stage, a whole bunch of hubbers changed their avatars to a pic of him. Took the pic on Admin's news thread, and cropped it to a avi-friendly size for anyone who wants to use it… :)

In what can only be described as mate-ship at it's best, Daryl Impey claims the first yellow jersey for South Africa after Simon Gerrans unselfishly committed himself for the team resulting in Daryl taking the lead. Enjoy another special edition of Backstage Pass from the 2013 Tour de France.

I'd tweeted this earlier…

Haven't seen the papers yet, but am hoping that @darylimpey's maillot jaune nudges out the Mandela "Graves of Our Lives" saga…

…didn't quite get my wish, but he got a decent showing in today's rags…

Hey gents/ladies,

How do we celebrate? Apart from the usual beer etc etc. Bunch rides in yellow, national holiday. What do you suggest?

Good to hear it last night and this morning make the news on the radio stations - not the sports news but mainstream news.

Just makes you wanna ride.....fantastic, needs to consolidate the yellow and go for a stage win today...

This is good enough reason to do a dstv upgrade to the full package today...

It would be awesome to see a fully SA team in TdF one day...what are the chances of that happening?
