On a stage that was always set to be one for the sprints, Quick-Step Floors put their man Fernando Gaviria in the perfect place to outgun Peter Sagan and Marcel Kittel.
Less expected was the time loses that some of the general classification favourites faced after crashes and mechanicals delayed parts of the peloton.
