By Press Office · 90 comments

GoPro, Inc. today unveiled new products and services that dramatically simplify the process of capturing, editing and sharing engaging content, establishing GoPro as an end-to-end storytelling solution.

GoPro’s founder and CEO, Nicholas Woodman, introduced a new line of HERO5 cameras, cloud-based software, and drone, Karma, to international press at the base of Squaw Valley, CA, near Lake Tahoe. The event was broadcast live and can be seen HERE.

“HERO5’s ability to auto-upload photos and videos to a GoPro Plus account dramatically simplifies mobile, on-the-go editing, sharing and enjoyment. This is a game-changing experience that we will continue to build upon.”

Woodman adds, “We’re stoked to launch Karma and show how much more it is than a drone. Karma packs Hollywood-caliber aerial, handheld and gear-mounted image stabilization into a backpack. It’s so easy to use, a beginner can have fun straight away.”

In addition to significant gains in performance and convenience, GoPro’s all-new HERO5 line of cameras can auto-upload photos and videos to GoPro Plus, a cloud-based subscription service that makes it easy to access, edit and share GoPro content anytime, anywhere using a phone or computer.

DJI is a bit of a sell out as well.

Just make your own drones.

Train a posduif to come sit on your shoulder and stuff. Like a pirate with a fancy bird of sortes.

I badly want one of these camera's but I am still undecided if I want the new GoPro or the Garmin Virb 30 Ultra. Bit I dont want it to mtb and stuff just to have around to take cool picks and videos while out and about.

Have you watched many of his Vlogs?

Nope, just that one. I cant stand people that throw equipment around like that, it gets my knickers in a knot.

Other than that he looks quite annoying.

In a few of them he talks about equipment etc...

It doesn't compete with the Phantom though, does it?

Enter the DJI Mavic! Things just got interesting!

Overpriced, terrible battery life on all their stuff, terrible sound, tons of software problems. You watch. The karma is going to be just as bad as the hero 3

Gopro is the benchmark by test and for good reason, granted they are over priced though. They have some shortcomings but for what they do(take HD footage in a tiny waterproof form factor that allows mounting in extreme positions/situations) they are the class leaders. The karma with removable gimbal is going to be epic and perhaps not overly expensive for what you get.

The only thing with the proliferation of drones is idiots flying them everywhere and anywhere, I don't want some random dudes drone anywhere near me, it's an invasion of privacy and a potential injury risk, I can see things getting messy the more they become commonplace.

Foot, meet mouth. The Karma is barely out of the gate and got shot. This is good, competition on the prosumer level will only drive improvement!

Only thing is the Mavic is twice the price, so I have a feeling they will both do well!

The down side to DJ, is they dont have a removable camera (unless you guys know otherwise?)

So you still need some kind of a camera to be able to use it when not using a drone.

At the moment that is a major draw card of the Karma (for me).

I just wonder what the Frenchies will have to say about the new DJI product...the fact that the Mavic has collision avoidance and possibly follow me functionality (haven't managed to do research into this yet) makes it a better choice, plus the one thing is that you don't always need a controller to fly it...just a tablet...to fly close range stuff.

Also folds up smaller and so on...

The Karma's removable gimbal makes a nice feature but adds bulk to the design.

But a good gimbal is rather pricey on its own and very handy, having it removable really is a win, seamless solution.

There's some web whispering about footage from the Mavic....a bit soft, not as crisp as the P4....see Casey's footage...compromise or inherent to Youtube downscaling? Say it ain't so....
