Forum discussion: Rampage 2013

By BikeHubCoreAdmin · 172 comments

It’s all over, the dust has been eaten and the bones are set to mend. Rampage did not disappoint this year and even had its first repeat winner. With 25 riders attacking the infamous red Utah dirt, and between Chubey’s huge gap and Doerfling’s huge crash on the Oakley Icon Sender, this years Rampage was no small affair.

Thought this needs a thread

Just rewatched McGarry's run... He got Norbied!

Straits run was fluid... yes... but pretty uneventful.

McGarry should have won!

+1

Eish, I'm tired today.

Some damn good riding at Rampage but I thought that McGarry's run was far better than Kyle's. That backflip on the gap jump was insane!

Just a pity that only the 1st runs counted.

He did at least win with the fans.

Shot for posting the vid

I felt it was a bit of an anticlimax, maybe it got hyped a bit too much.

I don't know who else noticed, but Cam Zink had extra padding on the outside of his helmet shell.

They say it's like wearing 2 helmets

ok..so....backlip on the sender or backflip on the canyon jump....which was more impressive?....my vote goes for the canyon jump by a small margin

I fell asleep during that long wind stop.....they obviously continued because zink came in 3rd.....so thats 3 4th's for the spaniard!

Yeah I noticed that. Couldn't figure out what was going on there. And why not just wear a Moto lid?

yeah, Super_mil and I were discussing that last night. Whilst the sender stepdown flip was insane the mechanics of it make it slightly safer. ie you kinda land on the down if something goes wrong. It's still goig to hurt though.

The canyon gap though... come up short and you're falling into a nasty gully, or splatting on the back side of the landing.

I wouldn't suggest that either is "safe" though

Is anything they do there 'safe' though?

agreed, the gap is backflip to near_flat land followed by near certain detonation. Ask Chris van dine about near_flat landing detonations. Poor sod wrecked himself properly.

Anyone remember last year's ejection by zink himself on that gap, that snap as his lid smashed into the deck? This year, the gap was even wider... *shudder*

but other than the gap flip, McGarry's run was pretty bland, not as bland as zink's though. that chap just got lost after landing the sender flip.

No ways!

he had that off axis flip near the top... and another flip near the bottom. I know it's noy much variety... but still looked sick

so what happened after the wind delay? I went to bed. did they cancel the 2nd runs? cus the results were the same as from the first runs.

Still think McGarry should have taken it.

Thought Andrea's run was insane too

no doubt for a tall chap like that to pop a corkscrew flip is balsy stuff, but my simple mind wasn't entertained by his run. it was like oh.. look.. 3 backflips. yay..

At least Lacondeguy was popping whips, flips, super sick superman grabs while going at a stupid rate of knots. IMO, it was evidently more entertaining to watch than trying to 'appreciate/imagine' just how hardcore mcgarry's run was (excluding the gap flip which is obviously very gnarly)

Lacondeguy definitely had the variety going. Also awesome run. Would score that above Strait too.

I guess though that with historical-huckers like Bender on the judging panel, the icon sender had quite a few points attached to it.

zink was 2nd before mcgarry came down, after which zink hogged 3rd till the curtains dropped. here are the scores after the first run.

the spaniard went up to third in his second run before the wind stop...so I am guessing they cancelled all the second runs

I thoroughly enjoyed it! except for the staying up till 2am to see if the wind will die down, luckily I only have class at 1400.

Lacondeguy was awesome, like his spirit, but Kelly McGarry and Wil White made it for me. That Zink backflip was insane, was sort of rooting that he doesn't get a 2nd chance, with baby on the way, haha.

Pitty Semunuk couldn't get it going, maybe because he's to serious,
