Bikes2Blossoms: a Mid-Summer Singletrack Experience

Paid partnership with Trails End Bike Hotel

It’s with great excitement that we can confirm the postponed Bikes2Blossoms MTB event will take place on Saturday, January 27, 2024.

The Heritage Day extreme storms wreaked havoc on most of the existing routes, and we had no choice but to postpone the 2023 edition. Since the flood damage, the community of Elgin started repairing and restoring bridges and trails to the extent that they’re now in even better condition than before.

The amazing project was undertaken, and completed by a few key role players, including Pieter Silberbauer from Trail’s End Bike Hotel, and Rhys Hickson from Oak Valley.

Together with a team of trail builders, they managed to restore routes, and build bridges where the earlier floods completely washed away traversing structures, and it is in support of this commendable effort that we’re now able to host the Bikes2Blossoms on January 27, at Trail’s End Bike Hotel.

The event is thus a solidarity ride in support of all the effort done by the Elgin Valley Trails team.

This is the Bikes2Blossoms “Hard Core” version – so bring all your technical skills with you and enjoy either one of the
fabulous longer routes!

The new routes are a single track junkie’s dream (apart from the kiddies route – which is a toned down version)! They’re challenging routes, adrenaline inducing, and competitively technical – requiring full concentration when done at speed.

There are three distances on offer:

  • The 55km will include the best of Oak Valley and the Grabouw Forest Trails, with approximately 1 200m elevation.
  • The 40km route includes the best of Grabouw Forest Trails and the brand new Moodie’s Meander with 700m of elevation.
  • The 14km route is a fun-filled kiddies route around the Eikenhof dam trails.

This event will start and finish at Trail’s End Bike Hotel – the Core of MTB trails in the Elgin/Grabouw valley, providing for the usual entertainment and stalls.

Included in your entry is a free Peregrine Farm Stall pie and juice, as well as a R50 voucher to spend at any time. Awesome to have this N2 Icon on board for the event.

The 2024 event will cement Bikes2Blossoms as a unique mid-summer single track event in the beautiful Elgin Valley, and a must for any MTBiker who appreciates something different.

Registration will take place on Friday, January 26, from 4pm to 7pm, and on Saturday from 5.30am to 7am.

Entries for the event will close on Wednesday, January 24, 2024, and late entries will be available at a surcharge of R100 per route at registration. ENTER HERE.

Just rode some of the Elgin trails. The climbs are gentle and the tracks really come alive if you open it up on the descents with just enough tech to make them fun. They're smooth enough for a hardtail and even dare I say, a 26er. The Trails End owners have done a great job of restoring the bridges and tracks damaged by the late winter floods.
