ASS MAGIC Chamois Cream is a premium chamois cream created in Cape Town, South Africa.

Chris Wolhuter, brand founder of ASS MAGIC, sought to offer a product which filled a gap in the market.

“Two years ago there were entry level chamois creams and higher priced offerings. I felt that we would be able to produce a premium product, locally, but still be able to offer it to the market at an affordable price.” says Chris.

With the boom in the number of multi-day events on the cycling calendar, more cyclists than ever before are using chamois cream. We have managed to convert users of other brands across to ours. Furthermore, we have started more of an education process in getting people to start using chamois cream, when they were not before.

Our aim when we started this venture was to produce the best possible offering to our client base, I certainly feel that we are well on our way to creating that and are able to continually improve the MAGIC. Secondly, we felt that ASS MAGIC should also be an affordable product and thus we targeted a retail price point of R150 a tub.

“We have also spent a lot of time listening to what our clients want, continually improving the MAGIC formulation as we have gone forward. The biggest request we have had is to make the cream thicker, which we have done through the increasing of our lanolin content and the addition of synthetic beeswax. We have kept the tea tree oil concentration consistent, which has a very distinctive scent when opening the tub. Zinc Oxide has also played an important role and has great healing properties.

The ASS MAGIC team will be at the Telkom 94.7 expo at stand 75-76 through the remainder of the week and running some great specials on the MAGIC, there will also be a range of branded apparel available.

Appreciate the support Spirog. Thank you

This is not a loaded question, really. Why is AM better than J&J baby bum cream or similar I have been using?

I bought 6 tubs of the ASSOS cream on a CWC sale a while ago at R120 a tub... Ass Magic works fine but I prefer ASSOS.

I have also used baby bum cream for a long time which works 100% for anti-chafing but it doesnt have anything in it to assist the healing/recovery process.

In my experience I can use any shammy cream and as long as I have some on it works (FiT, BioGen etc. and even Fissan paste), only ever used it at stage races and 24 hour/endurance events. For normal 1 day events and training nothing ....

The problem comes when there is already an issue (chafing, saddle sore and so on). I would think that then it is important to choose something that has the correct ingredients to also help with healing?

I never use the stuff for training rides or races.  Will only use it if doing stage races and use Bennetts bum cream.  I have tried the Biogen.

Can happily do a 5hr ride without... good bibs, bike set up and a saddle am comfortable on, current one have had for 2 years.

What property does the zinc-oxide provide. Used in sun screens ?

Hi gtr1

The zinc oxide helps promote healing if you do have skin irratation/saddle sore.

Hi ratherberidin

ASS MAGIC was developed with a specific purpose, to be a chamois cream which would prevent chafing and be anti-bacterial/fungal. Thus we have used specific ingredients to ensure that these requirements are met and exceeded.

We use lanolin and synthetic beeswax, both ingredients have fantastic anti-chafe properties.

Along with that, we also have 4 essential oils being Tea Tree, Witch Hazel, Lemon and Sweet Almond oil. This ensures that the cream is both anti-bacterial and anti-fungal.

As I have also mentioned there is Zinc Oxide which promotes healing assisted by the Sweet Almond and Witch Hazel oils.

Lastly, cycling kit should not be washed at higher temperatures than 30-40C as this can damage the fabric. AM will wash out of your chamois at these lower temperatures ensuring that in the long run your chamois doesn't 'clog up'.

Your closest store would either be Ridgeway Cycles or Concept Cyclery Melrose Arch. I suppose neither are in your specific area, we will look into getting into a store closer to you.

Do you have any stores you would recommend?

Thank you

Fair enough. I'll buy your o-ring lube then. :)
