{"id":22339,"date":"2012-04-25T07:10:00","date_gmt":"2012-04-25T06:10:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bikehub.co.za\/news\/odendaal-seeks-all-africa-challenge-enduro-success-r156\/"},"modified":"2023-02-08T12:40:23","modified_gmt":"2023-02-08T12:40:23","slug":"odendaal-seeks-all-africa-challenge-enduro-success-r156","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bikehub.co.za\/news\/odendaal-seeks-all-africa-challenge-enduro-success-r156\/","title":{"rendered":"Odendaal Seeks All Africa Challenge Enduro Success"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Exciting young downhiller Tiaan Odendaal will lead the charge as KZN\u2019s mountain biking community continues the launch of enduro racing in the country at this weekend\u2019s CSA KZN All Africa MTB Challenge at Cascades MTB park in Pietermaritzburg.<\/p>\n<p>Odendaal, who finished second behind renowned cross-country rider Philip Buys at the race format\u2019s \u2018KZN debut\u2019 last weekend at the Mr Price Karkloof Classic MTB Festival, will hope to go one better in his hometown on Saturday morning.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was great to win the juniors section at Karkloof but this weekend at Cascades there is only one section so I\u2019m going to have to push a little harder and try go for the overall win this time,\u201d said Odendaal.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m keen to try get a good result again this weekend and try keep up a good standard of racing,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>Despite having existed overseas for some time already the concept is still new to many South African riders however having now experienced his first enduro race, the talented youngster believes enduro racing has the potential to really take off locally as well.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"ipsAttachLink ipsAttachLink_image\" href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.bikehub.co.za\/production\/uploads\/2023\/02\/ccs-2-0-98135500-1335338406.jpg\" data-fileid=\"108738\" data-fileext=\"jpg\" rel=\"\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-fileid=\"108738\" class=\"ipsImage ipsImage_thumbnailed\" alt=\"2012XCEOdendaal.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.bikehub.co.za\/production\/uploads\/2023\/02\/ccs-2-0-98135500-1335338406.jpg\" title=\"\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#696969\"><span style=\"font-size:12px\"><em>Tiaan Odendaal will look to capitalise on his strong run at the STIHL Karkloof Enduro at last weekend&#8217;s Mr Price Karkloof Classic MTB Festival and make up for a disappointing downhill effort at the RockyRoads UCI MTB World Cup when he takes on the enduro at this weekend&#8217;s CSA KZN All Africa MTB Challenge.<\/em><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#696969\"><span style=\"font-size:12px\"><strong>Jetline Action Photo\/Gameplan Media<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is really is such a cool concept,\u201d said Odendaal. \u201cThere wasn\u2019t a downhill event at Karkloof this year so I thought I might as well give the enduro a go and I really enjoyed it and I\u2019m sure it will grow pretty quickly in South Africa.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith you having to cycle to the top before being timed coming down it\u2019s a great way for both cross-country and downhill riders to come together and race against each other, which we haven\u2019t really been able to do before.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere are quite a few similarities I could relate to as a downhill rider but it definitely isn\u2019t a downhill event and I reckon any type of rider will be able to cope with it because the track is pretty simple and definitely isn\u2019t anywhere near as technical as a proper downhill course,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>Odendaal will be eager to impress on the course he is familiar with and will be out to make amends for his slightly disappointing 74th place finish at the RockyRoads UCI MTB World Cup held at the same venue earlier this year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe world cup was a little disappointing for me this year. I was five seconds late for my start so I didn\u2019t have such a good start, which wasn\u2019t great, so hopefully things will go a little better this weekend,\u201d said Odendaal.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEven though Cascades is basically in my own backyard I try not to ride it too often but I\u2019ve heard Nick Floros has built a really cool track with a whole lot of new single track which should be awesome.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI saw a bit of the top section the other day and then rode a bit of the bottom section today and it looks great,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>The enduro takes place on Saturday 28 April and forms part of the two-day CSA KZN All Africa MTB Challenge that, along with the SA National Track &amp; Para Cycling Championships and the SA National BMX Championships, makes up the new CSA KZN All Africa Challenge.<\/p>\n<p>More info can be found at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cyclingsa.com\" rel=\"external nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">www.cyclingsa.com<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Exciting young downhiller Tiaan Odendaal will lead the charge as KZN\u2019s mountain biking community continues the launch of enduro racing in the country at this weekend\u2019s CSA KZN All Africa MTB Challenge at Cascades MTB park in Pietermaritzburg.
