The start of Stage Two of the Contego Wines2Whales MTB Race powered by Maserati on Saturday, 10 November 2012 saw riders taking off at a blistering pace.<\/p>\n

Starting at Oak Valley Sport Field (Elgin), the home of the 2012 Contego Wines2Whales MTB Race, riders had to complete a total distance of 65km before once again crossing the finish line at Oak Valley Sport Field. This time team RSA Web\/Cango MTB\u2019s Renay Groustra and Matthys Beukes turned on the heat, completing the much talked about stage in a mind blowing time of 02hours27minutes11seconds. According to Groustra stage two was awesome. \u201cToday\u2019s route was winding and technical, making for interesting racing. It was literally a 2 \u00bd hour cross country race, which leaves everything hurting in the end. We definitely want to go for an overall win tomorrow, but will have our work cut out for us. We\u2019ll just sit back and follow the wheels, in stage racing every second counts. So far I\u2019m completely blown away by the Wines2Whales and will definitely be back in 2013,\u201d says Groustra. Team Daikin Gu\/Cycle Funatics came in second, while Team Blend Property Group finished third.<\/p>\n

Team Contego Ladies was the women\u2019s team<\/em><\/strong> to beat on the day, with team members Cherise Stander and Mariske Strauss crossing the finish line in an impressive time of 02hours54minutes58seconds. \u201cToday\u2019s stage was really hard and fast,\u201d says Stander. \u201cI had a really bad stage yesterday with Mariske having to push me the entire time. Luckily my legs felt much better today. We made a break at round about the 25km mark and managed to hold the gap. Mariske is incredibly strong, I\u2019m just glad I could stay with her. The Wines2Whales definitely feels harder this year compared to 2010 when I competed with Karien van Jaarsveld. It\u2019s such an incredible race the vibe is amazing, the water tables are well stocked and the food is great. This is definitely an event that I\u2019ll try to come back to each year\u201d. Team Momentum Specialised Insurance Ladies came in second, while Team Bizhub Ladies finished third.<\/p>\n

In the mixed team category<\/em><\/strong> Team J&Y\u2019s Johan Labuschagne and Yolande De Villiers weren\u2019t pulling any punches, claiming victory in a superb time of 02hours54minutes57seconds. Team USN Inov-8 came in second, while Team Gogo and Gramps finished third.<\/p>\n

Finish:\t\t\t\t <\/em><\/strong>Onrus Caravan Park (just outside Hermanus)<\/p>\n
