For 2013 Trek Bicycles South Africa and Craft South Africa will partner with one of the country\u2019s rising mountain bike talents, James Reid. The two-year contract gives the 20-year old athlete an opportunity to continue cross country racing at the highest level.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

James will be chasing his dream of a U23 World Championship podium in 2013, when South Africa hosts the Mountain Bike World Championships in Pietermaritzburg in August\/September. The deal with Trek South Africa will see James race the all-new 2013 Trek Superfly Pro SL hardtail at select local XCO and marathon events as well as a number of international World Cup races.<\/p>\n

\u201cJames is a phenomenal young athlete and a great ambassador for our sport,\u201d said Trek South Africa Brand Manager, Nic Lamond. \u201cHe is focused on achieving on the global stage and we want to support him with the best equipment in the business. Our support doesn\u2019t end with bikes. James will be racing with Bontrager components and sporting Bontrager helmets, shoes and gloves. James will also be kitted out in Elite Craft cycling apparel.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u2018Understandably, my world has gone through a complete shake-up in the past few months,\u201d James admitted, referring to the disbanding of his previous team, Nedbank 360Life. \u201cBut to have solid support and backing from Trek is massive. They are a world-class bike manufacturer and this is the start of something really big. I am also chuffed Craft apparel has stuck by me. I know from experience Craft is world-class gear, which is important when you spend the amount of time in the saddle that I do!\u201d<\/p>\n

The 896g Trek Superfly SL frame, will be equipped with SRAM XX1 and is expected to weigh in at 8.7kg, race ready. \u201cI\u2019ve stuck with a hardtail going into 2013 as it\u2019s perfectly suited to my racing needs,\u201d said James. \u201cRacing at the top level is always a trade-off between weight and reliability, but the technology and specification of this bike is incredible. My focus is one hundred percent on the XCO World Championships in Pietermaritzburg at the end of August, and the Trek Superfly SL is my weapon of choice.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m very grateful Trek South Africa has allowed me the opportunity to prepare specifically for cross country races, especially in a country like ours, where marathon and stage races dominate the mountain bike scene.
