Cycling media and sponsors of the Cape Argus Cycle challenge will be treated to a friendly ride with renowned cycling commentator and sports journalist, Phil Ligget. During this exclusive ride, which takes place on Friday, 8 March, Phil will ride in support of Toyota South Africa\u2019s 1.5 meter Safe Cycling campaign.<\/p>\n
Phil Ligget, a former cyclist, is one of the main commentators for the Tour de France and also commentates for NBC Sports, ITV and SBS.<\/p>\n
\u201cPhil Ligget is in South Africa for the Cape Argus Cycle Challenge which takes place on Sunday, 10 March and this was a great opportunity for Toyota South Africa to partner with him. The friendly ride will take a scenic route with a start at Southern Sun Cullinan then taking the riders through Cape Town and the ride will end at Hout Bay. The ride will start at 10h00 and will be a 40km ride.<\/p>\n
To show his support, Phil will wear a fluorescent arm band which designed by Toyota in partnership with the Pedal Power Association, an organization dedicated to the development in cycling, to create and raise awareness about the initiative amongst both motorists and cyclists, and serve as a safety precaution due to its bright reflective colour.<\/p>\n
These arm bands can be collected at the Toyota Cycle Lab stand at the Argus expo, taking place at the Good Hope Centre from Thursday, 7 to Saturday, 9 March. Two lucky riders spotted wearing the armband can win a KTM Strada Road Bike to the value of R 10 999. One other rider can win a voucher worth R10 000.<\/p>\n
Furthermore, Toyota South Africa to donate R50 000 to the Pedal Power Association, in support of the 1,5 meter Safe Cycling campaign.<\/p>\n
Toyota, in partnership with the Pedal Power Association wants to emphasize at this year\u2019s Cape Argus Cycle Challenge \u2013 that will be held in Cape Town on Sunday 10 March \u2013 is that a mere distance of 1,5 metres is all that is required to save the life of a cyclist.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs a key stakeholder in cycling through its partnership with Cyclelab, Toyota South Africa saw the importance of the \u2018keep a driving distance of 1,5m from cyclist\u2019 initiative, as it effects both the drivers of their vehicles and cyclists nationwide.
