{"id":21865,"date":"2013-04-29T16:40:00","date_gmt":"2013-04-29T15:40:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bikehub.co.za\/news\/2013\/04\/29\/bmx-nationals-awarded-uci-status-r642\/"},"modified":"2023-02-08T12:31:31","modified_gmt":"2023-02-08T12:31:31","slug":"bmx-nationals-awarded-uci-status-r642","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bikehub.co.za\/news\/bmx-nationals-awarded-uci-status-r642\/","title":{"rendered":"BMX Nationals awarded UCI status"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>29 April 2013 \u2013 Cycling SA\u2019s BMX Commission is pleased to announce that the BMX National Championships, to be held on Sunday 22 September 2013, will carry UCI status.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is a new system in place for BMX racing where we have to qualify as a country to send riders to the UCI BMX World Championships in 2014,\u201d says Cycling SA BMX Commission Director Margot Gerber.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe elite riders will all be contributing valuable UCI <em>(International Cycling Union)<\/em> points from any UCI accredited event that they race in,&#8221; continued Gerber. &#8220;A higher value of UCI points can be earned in the Supercross World Cups and the highest from the World Champs. By gaining a UCI ranking at our national champs, our riders have an advantage of earning some points whilst racing at home.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The UCI ranking will only affect the elite BMX riders.<\/p>\n<p>The weekend of 21 and 22 September will also see the running of the final fifth leg of the BMX Grand National Series on the Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>Legs 3 and 4 of the Cycling SA-BMX Grand National Series take place in KwaZulu-Natal on 29 and 30 June 2013.
