Since leaving South Africa just over two months ago for his international campaign Richard Murray has been stacking up some strong performances and shown that he is more than ready and capable of competing with the big men of international triathlon.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am really proud that I showed in San Diego that I can play with the big boys and better my third place from last year. This season is for having fun, doing different races and trying not to be as serious as last year with a definite schedule. This year I am trying to do things differently.\u201d<\/p>\n

Murray is currently in Mallorca, Spain training with his new coach Joel Filliol and his squad for the ITU World Series race in Madrid on Saturday 1 June. \u201cIt will be my first time racing in Madrid. From what I heard the race is won or lost in the first 200m of the swim-leg. So I hope I will be out of the water close enough to be in contention. In Japan I was far behind the after swim and lost time on the bike, but still managed to run good and finish top 5 after starting the run in 20th<\/sup> place.\u201d<\/p>\n

Murray has been running strongly this season and his time of 29.38 for the 10km run in Japan is his personal best. \u201cMy running has picked up nicely now I have to work on the swimming to get it on the same level. At present I am between 50 second and minute behind, hopefully by September it will between 30 and 40 seconds.\u201d<\/p>\n

Murray also admitted that he is missing home and the local mountain bike trails. \u201cI may have to find myself an Specialized Epic 29\u2019er and take on the trails in Fuschl, Austria with the team from Red Bull!\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
