Cycling South Africa\u2019s Track Cycling Commission has selected a track cycling squad as per the selection criteria for the 2014 Commonwealth Games that will be held in Glasgow, Scotland from 23 July to 3 August 2014.<\/p>\n
The following cyclists have qualified in the Men’s Team Sprint discipline:<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n Bernard Esterhuizen<\/p>\n Jeanne Nell<\/p>\n Jean Smith<\/p>\n The following cyclists have qualified in the Men’s Team Endurance discipline: <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n Nolan Hoffman<\/p>\n Evan Carstens<\/p>\n As its pathway forward, and part of Cycling SA\u2019s 2016\/2020 vision, Cycling SA Track Cycling Commission’s focus is on the Team Pursuit and Team Sprint events rather than on individual events. This will allow for the inclusion of a team of cyclists whom will then be nominated to ride in the individual events.<\/p>\n Further to this, the track cycling commission has created a \u2018feeder\u2019 squad with the vision of improving the standard of our young talented track cyclists and deepening the talent pool when it comes to team selection, which from herewith shall be referred to as the \u201cShadow Squad\u201d.<\/p>\n In line with this vision, the feeder squad has been selected as follows:<\/em><\/p>\n Men’s Track Sprint:<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n Michael Thomson<\/p>\n Hendrik Schalekamp<\/p>\n Kyle Borchjes<\/p>\n Shane Pheiffer<\/p>\n Matthew de Freitas<\/p>\n Men’s Track Endurance: <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n Craig Symons<\/p>\n Dirkie Nel<\/p>\n James Perry<\/p>\n Jean Spies<\/p>\n Jevandre Pauls<\/p>\n Kellan Gouveris<\/p>\n Morne van Niekerk<\/p>\n Oupa Maluleke<\/p>\n Reniell Matthysen<\/p>\n Shameeg Salie<\/p>\n Shaun Ward<\/p>\n Theuns van der Bank<\/p>\n Women’s Track Endurance: <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n Maroejska Matthee<\/p>\n Any athlete, male or female, has the right to challenge for inclusion into the feeder squad via the underlying selection criteria.<\/p>\n As part of Cycling SA\u2019s Track Cycling strategy, and its focus on the Team events, the underlying entrance and exit strategy is now in place for Track Cycling\u2019s \u201cElite Shadow Squad\u201d in both the elite men and elite women categories.<\/p>\n The underlying times will be regarded as the benchmark as at the 1st<\/sup> December 2013:<\/p>\n Please note that the selectors reserve the right to omit any athlete from the squad whom do not meet the above criteria on or before 1st<\/sup> December 2013.<\/p>\n In the interim, athletes will have three opportunities to gain entry into the feeder team during the upcoming Grand Prix Series and Inter Provincials. These events will be hosted at Port Elizabeth from 13-15 September, Western Cape from 18-20 October, and Gauteng from 22-24 November 2013.<\/p>\n\n
