The event is a major focus for Team MTN-Qhubeka p\/b Samsung after its success last year with two stage wins.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"ipsAttachLink ipsAttachLink_image\" href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.bikehub.co.za\/production\/uploads\/2023\/02\/ccs-2-0-12987300-1375783117.jpg\" data-fileid=\"251248\" data-fileext=\"jpg\" rel=\"\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-fileid=\"251248\" class=\"ipsImage ipsImage_thumbnailed\" alt=\"bettiniphoto_0141306_1_full-e1375772599762.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.bikehub.co.za\/production\/uploads\/2023\/02\/ccs-2-0-12987300-1375783117.jpg\" title=\"\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#696969\"><span style=\"font-size:12px\"><em>Photo: www.teammtnqhubeka.com<\/em><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Jay Thomson, while riding for an American team, won the opening road stage and wore the yellow jersey for several stages last year. The South African champion forms part of the line up this year for Africa\u2019s first Professional Continental team.<\/p>\n<p>Gerald Ciolek will target the sprint finishes while Sergio Pardilla is looking for a high finish in the overall race.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Volta a Portugal is a great event with tough conditions,\u201d said Sports Director, Jens Zemke.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis race offers everything cycling is about. Hot weather, amazing mountain stages, fast sprints at beautiful scenery, a team time trial in the capital Lisbon and huge crowd of enthusiastic fans.
