{"id":21641,"date":"2013-08-20T06:40:00","date_gmt":"2013-08-20T05:40:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bikehub.co.za\/news\/2013\/08\/20\/south-africa-represented-at-inaugural-uci-womens-coaching-course-r868\/"},"modified":"2023-02-08T12:26:05","modified_gmt":"2023-02-08T12:26:05","slug":"south-africa-represented-at-inaugural-uci-womens-coaching-course-r868","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bikehub.co.za\/news\/south-africa-represented-at-inaugural-uci-womens-coaching-course-r868\/","title":{"rendered":"South Africa represented at inaugural UCI Women\u2019s Coaching Course"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Ambitious South African women coaches Annerine Wenhold and Erica Green are in Aigle, Switzerland for the inaugural four-week women\u2019s coaching course at the UCI World Cycling Centre (WCC), taking place from 5-30 August 2013.<\/p>\n<div style=\" max-width: 500px\">\n<a class=\"ipsAttachLink ipsAttachLink_image\" href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.bikehub.co.za\/production\/uploads\/2023\/02\/ccs-2-0-51903700-1376980915.jpg\" data-fileid=\"256423\" data-fileext=\"jpg\" rel=\"\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-fileid=\"256423\" class=\"ipsImage ipsImage_thumbnailed\" alt=\"Womens_Coach_Course_1.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.bikehub.co.za\/production\/uploads\/2023\/02\/ccs-2-0-51903700-1376980915.jpg\" title=\"\"><\/a>\n<\/div>\n<p>The Cycling South Africa Coaching Commission, SASCOC (South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee) and Olympic Solidarity afforded them the opportunity.<br \/>The coaching course is essentially an eight-week course, which has been condensed into four weeks.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs can be imagined, we are literally working day and night,\u201d said Annerine. \u201cOn its successful completion, we will be awarded with UCI level 1 and 2 coaching qualification.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe level at which this course is being presented by our facilitator, Belinda Tarling  (voted best Coach of the Year (2012) in Britain), is definitely one of the most in-depth courses that I\u2019ve ever been on. And this is only the end of the first week!\u201d says Erica.<\/p>\n<p>A group of 10 women are attending the course from countries including Croatia, Azerbaijan, Hong Kong, Japan, Finland, Uganda, Iran and South Africa. Many of the attendees are either professional or ex-professional riders, with some who even participated in the 2012 London Olympics.<\/p>\n<div style=\" max-width: 300px\">\n<a class=\"ipsAttachLink ipsAttachLink_image\" href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.bikehub.co.za\/production\/uploads\/2023\/02\/ccs-2-0-95053500-1376980915.jpg\" data-fileid=\"256424\" data-fileext=\"jpg\" rel=\"\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-fileid=\"256424\" class=\"ipsImage ipsImage_thumbnailed\" alt=\"Womens_Coach_Course_2.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.bikehub.co.za\/production\/uploads\/2023\/02\/ccs-2-0-95053500-1376980915.jpg\" title=\"\"><\/a>\n<\/div>\n<p>The course is presented in English, a language that is not the mother tongue for most. \u201cIt is, however, amazing to see how the course attendees are working together to master the material,\u201d said Annerine.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are staying in an apartment in Aigle, and we were issued with city bikes, which serves as transport on the 4km commute to and from the WCC,\u201d continues Annerine. \u201cWe are fortunate to have Internet and library facilities available as supporting resources to the material provided.
